The Bonhams Amelia Island sale is going on today (3 March 2022) but I still wanted to present you this beautiful 1974 Porsche 914 2.0. In most cases, I wouldn't be a fan of this color scheme but on this model, I find it just fit perfectly. This is the detail that caught my eye when I was browsing the different lots of this sale, especially pre-war cars (of which my knowledge is quite limited).
The expected selling price is around $US 60,000 without reserve price. Given the characteristics of this car and the maintenance done by the previous owners, this convertible deserves special attention with its 2.0L Volkswagen Flat 4.

History of Porsche 914
The Porsche 914 was a Targa-top sports car produced between 1969 and 1976 in collaboration with Volkswagen thanks to an agreement that dated back to the creation of Porsche. The 914 was built in order to replace the Karmann-Ghia Type 14 of Volkswagen and serve as a profitable entry-level car for Porsche. Normally Porsche was to sell the version equipped with a Flat-6 engine and Volkswagen with a Flat-4.
The Porsche 914 was assembled by Karmann, German automobile manufacturer based in Osnabrück. The car was presented during the 1969 Frankfurt Auto Show. Despite its attractive design, the competition offers more powerful and less expensive cars like the Alfa Romeo 1300 GT, Opel GT or the Alpine Berlinette Tour de France. The 914 was sold for around $US 28,000 in its basic version and more than $US 46,000 in its version equipped with the flat-six engine of the Porsche 911 T (110 hp with a top speed of 200 kmh).
The car wasn't a success in Europe but in the United States it was the opposite. It was sold 118,979 worldwide (but only 3,333 in 914/6) which makes it the best selling mid-engine car.
Specification
This Porsche 914 2.0 is equipped with 1970 cc OHV Air-Cooled 4 cylinder engine mated with 5-Speed manual transmission producing 99 hp at 5,000 rpm.
This example was finished at the Porsche works with options especially for California use 😀 like tinted windshield and sealed beam headlights. It's finished in Saturn yellow (very cool on this model) over a beige leather interior. Iconic car...
What do you think of this car ? Do you see it in your garage ?
