In Bengal this pulao is very popular in special occasions like marriage, rice ceremony, any puja etc.Unlike any south Indian pulao(fried rice)this pulao tastes sweet. Basanti pulao is essentially made with” gobindo bhog rice”, which is an aromatic rice of Bengal. But as a substitute you can pick “kalizeera rice” available in any Bangladeshi store outside India; you can even use “Basmati rice” as well. The aromatic rice, rich spices, wrapped in clarified butter and a sweet undertone will definitely ignite an unending love for it in you. This can be enjoyed with a host of different Bengali curries but for us it best goes with kosha mangsho.
