Every year we make these snowman cookies. They are always super popular and fun.
The bottom is made with sugar glass and traps in the candies so you can shake them around like a snowglobe.
They look really difficult to make but they are not all that bad.
Instructions
- Cut a snowman template out of cardboard.
- Make your favorite sugar cookie recipe.
- Roll out and trace the snowman template x2 for each snowman.
- Keep one whole and cut a circle out of the bottom of the 2nd one (about the size of the bottom of a cupcake tin)
- While cookies are cooling make sugar glass. (Recipe)
- Spray cupcake tins with nonstick spray and pour a small amount of sugar glass mixture into each cupcake hole. Not too thick.
- Let cool
- When hardened remove from trays.
- Make white royal icing (Recipe). Make some stiffer for the outline and dots around the sugar glass.
To assemble snowman:
- Place solid snowman cookie on the bottom.
- Attach 2nd cookie with the hole on top using a small amount of royal icing between the layers.
- Fill the opening of the circle with snow confetti sprinkles of your choice.
- Place a sugar glass circle over the opening and adhere with royal icing.
- Decorate the snowman with royal icing using the stiffer batch for the outline and the thinner batch for flooding.
- Using the stiffer batch of royal icing for dots around the sugar glass to conceal the edge and give it a finished look.
- Add the snowman’s eyes, carrot nose and buttons using colored royal icing.
- Let the icing dry and your snowman snow globe will be ready to shake and eat.
These cookies make great gifts that people will talk about.
If you end up making them, share yours in the comment section.
We originally got the idea from this receipe, I highly recommend checking it out for some more pictures. The picture I used is the final product from last year and I didn't take step by step pictures.
