Fitness isn't one size fits all anymore but you're also not trying hard enough
Parked in my vehicle before sunrise I was eagerly awaiting the unlocking of the doors. The gym I attend was reopening after a three month shutdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. My mind was ready, my body was not.
That was a little over two months ago. My body adapted to the return to training just as I knew it would. It took time. It took consistency, but I'm back.
That's what I would like to talk about here. Time and consistency. In the wee morning hours since the gym has reopened they are two of the things that I see missing from the average attendee. Now I know that not everyone has the same goals. Not everyone has the same body, or experience, or plane of motion or/and/etc. and the list is as long as the amount of excuses you can come up with in your head. I've made some of them myself. The one thing that can be said though is that if you are in the gym you have at least made some commitment, no matter how small to better yourself.
You will find this exceedingly difficult to do if you attend two days one week, one day the next, skip the third and try to make it up the fourth by coming five times in a row.
Look, nothing will ever beat a tried and true regimented, proven program complete with tight nutrition but that isn't for all of us. Long gone are the dreams of the perfect body or even any competitive aspirations. We just want to look and feel better, right? That takes Time and Consistency. Some of the fittest people in my gym have found what works for them through trial and error, by putting in the work, by being there even when they don't want to be. Scale moved up a few pounds? Don't be discouraged. Show up again and show up with a purpose.
Are you comfortable? You shouldn't be. Work for it. Grind out an extra half mile. Push out two more reps. It can take years. It will take years.
Thanks again for your time and attention!
