How was your first day of 2018? I hope you started well the new year. Today I want to share with you the last cake that I've made on 2017. I made this cake for the kid that I'm currently taking care of after school time. It's been the third year I'm looking after him, his brother and her sister. He asked me kindly if I could make a cake for him and if he could choose the flavor. I said yes, that's perfect! It's actually better for me when someone knows what kind of cake they want so I dont have to find some ideas. The kid said he wanted a chocolate cake with chocolate icing. Good choice and it's doable.
I remember seeing a good recipe in Instagram from my favorite baker, Tessa Huff from Style Sweet CA, that isn't available in her cookbook or maybe it's in her cookbook but I didn't see it :-D I decided to make that cake and I went to her blog to check the recipe. The cake was Triple Chocolate Fudge Cake with Milk Chocolate Cloud Frosting. What a long name, huh?! This cake has became my favorite chocolate cake and the buttercream was also so smooth and soooooo gooooood! Please head to her blog to check the recipe ;-)
Overall, everything went well, though during winter it's kind of hard for me to work with my buttercream. My kitchen is quite cold, even when I already turned on the heater. The temperature stays on 19°C. My buttercream looked so soft and smooth like it's supposed to be. But if I dont work with it directly, my buttercream starts to harden, as if just come out from the fridge. It's still spreadable though, but it's hard to pipe it and my piped decoration isn't too smooth. That's why in this cake, I didn't decorate the top of the cake like it's shown in the blog. I only sprinkled with chocolate pearls.
I brought the cake to the kid's house and we celebrated his 10th birthday together with his family. They all loved it. I didn't manage to take the inside look of the cake. I wanted to show you guys how perfect the layer was but I didn't bring my camera. My smartphone doesn't have a good camera for taking a picture in the night time. Too bad!
Next, for this new year of 2018, I really want to improve my baking skill. I'm planning to enroll myself in a cake decorating courses. I'm so excited for that! :-) What about you? Any specific plans or goals you want to achieve this year?
