Merienda time is also known as snack time in English. It's usually a light meal served after lunch but before supper. There are many merienda varities to choose from. This week I will be featuring one of my most favorite merienda delicacy which is the Empanada.
Empanada is also known as stuffed bread or pastry in English. It's a popular delicacy all over the world. Here in the Philippines, an empanada is usually made of ground chicken or pork which is mixed with potatoes, cheese, onions, sometimes carrots and raisins depending on your preference.
Once the ingredients are mixed, it is then wrapped in a flat dough, half-moon style, which is sealed by folding and then pressing the edges thus, the crimped edges. It is then baked or deep-fried.
A refreshing ice cold soda or fruit juice is then served to complete the merienda!
