Ah, Chinese New Year...
We are always blessed with abundance...
Especially from visiting families, with mostly traditional gifts like Mandarin Oranges and...
Packed Roasted Peanuts
But what if when you have too much and my lovely parents just can't chew on (some of) those harder peanuts, or if you simply just had too much?
Well, if you just so happened have a blender with you, and some (preferably cold press) oil, even with sugar if you want, you can make your very own peanut butter!
And that is exactly what I tried when I managed to reacquite the magic bullet grinder + blender mixer that I bought for my parents many years ago.
Because it was a little tricky to handle the machine as it didn't have any buttons and it starts its motor the moment you lock it, my mom wasn't very confident in using it.
So instead of gathering dusts, I took it back with me.
I have searched through YouTube with some instructions how to use a magic bullet mixer to successfully make a proper paste and it's actually a little tricky.
Because of its speed and lack of liquid you will need to use two different type of blades to do it.
one. You first grind the un-shelled peanuts
two. Then you only blend the rest of the ingredients together
There's a note to take when you grind prepacked roasted peanuts.
When you grind them fine and long enough they will start to secrete their own oil from previous roasted state, so when you start to notice that they are beginning to crumpled together this is when you realise you need to switch to a blender.
For normal mixer you will not necessarily need to change blades because they cater to that kind of mixing already.
And this is where, based on your amount of peanut crumpled paste, you determine your portion of oil.
If you want a softer texture then my all means place about a tablespoon of oil, preferably cold pressed as it works better (for me), and it can blend a little smoother.
Depending on how salty your preroasted peanuts you might not need to add extra ; otherwise a tiny bit of pink Himalayan salt would suffice.
If you prefer your peanut butter to be sweet, or you accidentally placed a little too heavy on the salt, you can try brown sugar.
Bottom line is that one product can anytime change to another product if you have the tools to do so. 😁
The most important is not to waste food and throw it away.
So far I added a little too much on the oil so mine is much more watery so I am placing it in the fridge for hardening before using it.
I hope you have enjoyed this post of #triedntested.
So magic bullet owners, you can technically make peanut butter spreads but of course not as smooth and creamy as the stored bought ones.
This actually saves a lot of money for thrifty parents who are happy to have homemade spreads, because most of the ingredients are already there if you have a machine like a mixer sitting around.
How about you? Would you give this a try if you have the extra ingredients at home?
It can be a fun kids project too in the kitchen as long as there's supervision when handling the blades and washing them.
