One day I was invited for dinner at a Swedish friend and she offered me a delicious soup (recipe at the end of the post!) - in that moment I was conquered by the Swedish cusine and later on tried also different dishes:
The below is a very short list of the kinds of food you would enconter in Sweden:
meatballs
Believe this is the most famous dish in Sweden. My friend told me no one makes better meatballs than her mother who lives in Gothenburg ;-) For the ones that know the brand IKEA (store of furnishing and appliances) would recognize this dish from their store restaurant.

Staple food very common in the nordic countries - goes nicely with butter, cheese and/or fruit jam

Ginger snaps
In Swedish "pepparkakor" delicious biscuits with ginger pepper and cinnamon - tastes like Christmas!

salmon soup
This is the soup I tried at my friend and also could reproduced it later at home. Sorry about the picture which is not one of the best, but its taste was incredible!
Ingredients:
- 1 big onion
- 2 cloves of garlic
- curry powder
- 3 table spoons of tomato puree
- 1 1/2 fish (or vegetable) broth
- Dill (herb commonly used in Scandinavian and Eastern Cusine)
- 300ml water
- 200ml white wine
- black pepper
- 400gr salmon
- 50ml cream
Preparation
- Chop and frie the onion and garlic then add the curry powder
- Add all ingredients except the salmon and cream
- Boil for 15 minutes
- Add the salmon and cream and boil for additional 5 minutes.
