Allow me to share another cheap recipe for you, my friendly compadres here on Steemit.
When I'm lacking money but want my stomach to think otherwise, I eat a big ramen soup meal.
To me, a good ramen meal consists of a few things:
Is the broth tasty?
Is the stuff in the broth going to fill you up?
Are you including a protein in your broth?
For broth, I usually use the spicy packets of ramen because I'm cheap and lazy, and I add sesame seed oil, chili powder, soup base, anything I like to make a "broth." Sometimes, I use actual broth I saved from making another one of my frugal recipes(more on that in another post perhaps?) and it comes out pretty damned good.
After the broth has the flavor I like I use it to cook some vegetables. Green onions, small potatoes in chunks, and carrots are typical choices for me. They are cheap for plenty and fill me up. Plus my mama says it's good for me, and I respect mama! She knows best. These are the filler contents of the soup meant to make it more satisfying.
As for protein, my favorite is shrimp. But shrimp can be very expensive so I can suggest ground beef, or thinly sliced pieces of your preferred cut of meat instead. Ground beef cooks easily in boiling broth and typically has a good amount of fat mixed in, fortifying your meal with extra calories. I also crack an egg or two in and allow one to cook whole and beat the other one into the broth to make it cloudy and tasty.
After everything is nice and cooked, drop in your noodles and turn off the heat. The broth will work its magic and you will have a delicious meal to eat that will make you feel like a king or queen. I make this at home, while out camping. I bring ziplock bags with the prepared ingredients and ramen packets for easy food made using only boiling water.
Typically if I make this meal, I make it spicy. I even add pureed habanero sometimes. Make this meal your own and add things you know you'll enjoy in a tasty noodle soup!
If anyone has any cheap recipes, please post in this thread! We all wanna hear. :)
