Before I came to Canada, I've never heard about "Poutine" - which is super famous and typical Canadian dish invented in the Canadian province of Quebec, consisting of French fries and cheese curds topped with a brown gravy. Now the poutine is the symbol of celebrating the Quebec culture and super popular all over Canada. It reminds me of the Russian fried potato with the meat sauce on the top - kinda the gradma's style dish.
Usually, it's a street type of food and the great snack for beer. There are three main components of the dish:
- French fries.
it should be crispy outside and soft inside.
- Cheese curds: kinda weird combination of potatoes and cheese for me, but surprisingly tasty.
it gives the creamy texture and rich taste.
- Brown gravy
Usually made from the chicken, veal, or turkey. Sometimes can be salty or peppery.
Have you ever tried Canadian Poutine? How do you like it?
