Food has always been one of the high points of travel for me. I love seeking out local favorites, hidden gems, unique street treats, and of course traditional breakfast! I don't know what it is about local breakfast foods the intrigue me so much, I rarely eat anything too interesting at home for breakfast, yet somehow breakfast in a foreign land seems like such a unique peek into local life.
In India you'll find aloo paranthas, a northern Indian breakfast food that is kind of like a flat bread stuffed with potatoes and spices and served with plain yogurt and spicy mixed pickles.
In Mexico the bigger hotels will offer elaborate breakfast buffets featuring a wide assortment of local specialties, but my favorite treats have always been chilaquiles (crunchy corn tortilla strips drenched in red or green sauce and usually served alongside eggs) and jugo verde (literally: green juice), a blend of fruits and greens that revitalizes you and prepares you for the day (I've been trying to figure out the recipe for some time now but haven't been able to fully master it)
One of my favorite recent travel breakfast spots has been Istanbul, where a full Turkish breakfast will consist of several small dishes of assorted cheeses, honey, olives, bread, fresh tomatoes and herbs, tapanades, and an egg dish (my favorite being menemen, a combo of eggs, cheese, spicy peppers and tomatoes all cooked together in one dish)
