My gym trainer told me, back when I first started working out, that a very good addition to my diet would be chia seeds. He stated that the Aztec warriors would a handful before a battle to power up for an hour or so.
Initially I laughed, because chia pets were on TV commercials all the time when I was a kid.
But I have found that 2 or 3 scoops about an hour before the gym does wonders for my energy levels. I get less dizzy or worn out when I eat these seeds.

How to eat them
First of all, DO NOT COOK THEM unless you want to spend a lot of time on clean up.
They will stick like little concrete specks to anything they come into contact with.
Because I am lazy, I use plastic cups to mix them with other foods...so I can throw those away afterwards rather than spending 10 minutes scrubbing.
You can eat them straight up. Chase them with a liquid for sure. They will leave a mild fishy taste in your mouth.
Mix them in with sunflower seeds and eat them straight up. The salty flavor of the seeds covers any fishy taste.
Add them to oatmeal. After experimenting with is, it is just as easy to mix them into cooked oatmeal and save yourself the mess of cooking them into the oatmeal.
Peanut butter and avocado mash up with them nicely.
In fact, my breakfast lately has been a tablespoon of peanut butter, a banana, 2 or 3 scoops of chia seeds, a little OJ...all mashed up in a plastic cup
Pour some milk or almond milk in with a couple of scoops, add a little cinnamon or nutmeg (or pumpkin pie spice), and let it sit for awhile.
I use these
BetterBody Foods Organic Chia Seeds, Non-GMO, Great Taste, 2 Pound
This usually lasts me 6 weeks to 2 months, and is pretty cheap.

The ubiquitous pic
A version of this pic is in about every TexMex restaurant on 7th Street. I love it. Since we started talking about Aztec warriors, I threw it in ;>
