I wanted so badly to join last week's Hive Top Chef, but I simply forgot to drop my entry!
Anyways, for this week, the contestants got a simple product to shine, The Dough!
Check out what I'm bringing for you foodies, as usual something very easy to make at home!!!
SFENJ
Sfenj is a very famous 'snack/fritter-like' Moroccan doughnut made from a sticky, unsweetened leavened dough !
Perfect with some Moroccan mint tea!
Very basic ingredients needed!
- 3 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon raw sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vinegar
- 1 1/4 cup warm water
- Vegetable oil, for frying
STEPS...
Dissolve the yeast in the warm water and let if proof for about 10 minutes!
- Put the flour, salt, sugar and vinegar in a bowl.
- Add the warm water and yeast mixture to it and stir vigorously with your hand until smooth.
The dough must be too sticky to knead or shape, almost like a thick batter. - Cover the bowl and let the dough rise for about 3 hours until double or triple in quantity.
- After 3 hours of raising, knead the dough until you get a very soft texture.
- Wet your hands in the oil, then pull off pieces of dough about the size of a golf ball!
- With the use of your fingers, make a hole in the dough ball and stretch the hole wide to make like a ring!
- Place the dough ring directly in hot oil for frying!
- After a couple of seconds, it will start to take a nice golden brown color in the bottom!
Turn it over and cook the other side until golden brown!
Et voilà c'est près !!!
Since the day I discovered this fritter...it became one of my all time favorite!
Who's hand is this!?!
You guessed it right...
It's my daughter Rheem, she loves sfenj so much!
As mentioned above...you need a nice Moroccan mint tea to accompany your sfenj...hmmm milk tea works well also!
Thank you for giving the foodies out there the opportunity to participate in your well organized contest!
Wish you well!
Good luck to all foodies!
