Yesterday, my wife, older son, daughter, and her boyfriend went out for lunch in a Hakka themed food court. It’s really an amazing representation of the Chinese ethnic group Hakka and their tradition life style.
So first i will present the building and exhibits and then the food.
This is a traditional sidewalk on an old street with various restaurants.
This is a real rickshaw. Of course, all the exhibits have “do not touch” or “do not sit”.
This isn’t a bigfoot costume. It’s actually a Hakka raincoat. It’s made from the bristles that the brooms are made off. My wife’s home actually has one from her father’s.
A wooden threshing machine- it separates the rice grain from the stalk.
This is of course a cart.
This was an artistic representative of the sky. If you see the stairs, its actually an escalator but the sides are covered with wood too retain the traditional look.
This is a view of the how they put a lot of effort into keeping a realistic street look. I love the Chinese lanterns.
Here is another example of the above point.
Rock-a-bye-baby ;) i wonder if my wife was rocked in one.
A hobby horse
Traditional doors- it doesn’t go anywhere.
A wedding car.
Now for the food.
My son ordered a steak and noodles served on a hot iron plate.
My wife ordered a bowl of rice with vegetables, pork, and roasted chicken.
My daughter wasn’t in the mood to be pictured, so this was hers. She had rice, shrimp, salad, and corn soup.
Her boyfriend wasn’t in a picture mood either. He ordered pasta served with a tomato and meat sauce. Also with corn soup.
I was the only one that ordered traditional food. I got food to share with everyone. It’s just more fun. These are fried dumplings, vegetables, and soft boiled eggs.
All together, it was a great time. If you’re in the neighborhood and love Chinese culture, this is a great place located in Chu Bei , Taiwan.
