Hello and welcome back. I welcome you to the Wednesday Wellbeing Club, of which I participate. Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm alive and thriving this last week of September.
I wanted to share with you some information on the Wellbeing Club that's hosted by over in the Natural Medicine Community.
The Club kicked off its initiative on Wednesday, August 11. However, you can join in any time. You can also read about it here: Wednesday Wellbeing Club | 11 August - 24 November | Week 1: Wednesday 18 August 2021. We're now half way through.
Since retirement, I've busied myself with various projects, as well as volunteering for several committees. Sometimes I overdo it and run myself down to the point of not sleeping or eating well. There is no reason for this. However, in my mind, I felt that I still needed to keep going. I needed to keep up the pace of being productive.
I found the Saturday Savers Club hosted by on the
account. Since January I have enjoyed being part of the group interacting with each other and sharing tips about saving and investing. I've grown my account and gotten to know some awesome Hive members in the process.
When began the Wednesday Wellbeing Club initiative in August, it just fit with my new perspective of making a permanent lifestyle change after being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2019. Being a part of the Wellbeing Club has given me the opportunity to assess my weekly routines. It also provides me the time to address some tasks and projects that may not be serving me well or in my best interest.
That's where 's initiative on Wednesdays helped me. It's still going strong as you can see in her report today: Wednesday Wellbeing Club | 11 August - 24 November | Week 7: Wednesday 29 September 2021. This week's Wellbeing TIP covers the topic of "When it all Goes Wrong."
This happens for all kinds of reasons and building some kind of coping mechanisms can help..
The Wednesday Wellbeing Club is all about adapting to changes you make. It's not about adhering to others changes that think they know best about your life and your lifestyle. I adopted the Club's Rule of Fives as my guideline. Then I tailored them to fit my personality and well being agenda.
The ability to create my own Rules and work within the Club's framework is easy. That way, I'll be able to fully maintain my wellbeing plan.
Here is my Rule of FOURS for each week:
- Lose 2 lbs.;
- Enjoy 4 x 30-minute sessions of physical activity (either indoors or outdoors);
- Eat 4 x (1/2 cup combined) - portions of fruit and vegetables each day;
- Get 4 nights x 8 hours sleep.
- Carve out 4 x 30-minute sessions offline either with family or self-indulgence quiet time.
WHEN THINGS GO WRONG
In 's post this week, she provides tips on how she handled issues when things go wrong and how it affects your wellbeing. She asks, "do you have any tips for when things go wrong? Because they surely will?"
Let's see how well I did in Week 7:
| Activity | Goal | Week 7 | To Date | On Target |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Weight | -2 lbs. week | -3.5 | -4.5 | 8 lbs. lost; assisted by liquid diet ahead of medical prodecure |
| Physical Activity | 4 (sessions; 30 min. each)/week | 2 | Interrupted by medical procedure | |
| Eating | 4 x (1/2 cups each; fruits/veggies) per day | 4 | on target | |
| Wellness in Sleep | 4 nights x 8 hrs. | 3 | need improvement | |
| Offline Wellness | 4 events | 2 | busy schedule |
Wellness
I'd like to address one aspect of my Wellbeing plan I addressed last week. My A1C number is holding steady in the 140 - 150 range. Per my new doctor's orders,
I'm now waiting on the vaccine booster, the 3rd Pfizer shot. I'm eligible as I'm a senior citizen with an underlying Diabetes condition. I can't wait to get my booster shot and further arm myself with protection for me, my family, and everyone I come in contact with. That's the reason I got vaccinated.
Weigh
My weight has been slow to date. Yesterday, I consumed only a liquid diet ahead of my Colonoscopy today. I felt off balance undergoing the liquid diet. That was to be expected. I'm still a bit shaky, but wanted to bring the results of my week. I'm just now waiting on the test to reveal a negative result. I hope to be feeling better in a couple of days. As a result, I lost 3.5 lbs. in one day. That increase caused my total weight loss to be 8 lbs so far.
However, a weekly reduction in 3.5 lbs. is unrealistic for me. I expect that next week I may not have a loss. That's fine with me.
I feel that this week was going good until yesterday. I still haven't reached my goals in some areas of my wellbeing plan. As with any goal, I'll just continue to follow my new Wellbeing Club RULES OF 4.
See you next Wednesday everyone for Week 8 of the Wellbeing Club. If you are participating in any lifestyle change program, I'd love to hear what you are doing or your program that works well for you.
