Me and my mother used to wonder, why are there these pink lines on our lettuce?
It looked like a water stain on paper, but it was a pink stain on the lettuce, if you know what I mean. Anyway, it made me wonder, is it a chemical stain!? Is it the lettuce going bad? What could it be!?
That’s when I looked it up. This pink/red stain is just a sign that the lettuce is not at its freshest point. But it is still okay and good to eat!
It’s like when a banana starts to get old, it turns brown. A few brown spots are okay to eat, and you don’t throw out a spotty yellow banana. Same for the lettuce! A few pink splotches on your lettuce doesn’t mean it’s bad, just that it’s getting old. As long as your lettuce isn’t slimy or dark green it’s fine to eat.
I’ve eaten pink-spotted lettuce and I am just fine, actually a bit happier now that I know why it is that way!
