Easy to make and accessible French toast, the favorite of the young. Step by step.
Hello, fellow chefs from Foodies Bee Hive! today I woke up feeling like I could really have some french toast for breakfast. I put my music on and that was exactly what I did. If you haven’t tried french toast yet, I’ll show you my way of doing it. Of course, a French person might have some corrections or maybe they do it differently, but that’s ok, either way, is an easy recipe and very tasty to put the energy ON and start the day.
For making the french toast for 2 you will need:
-1 egg
-Cinnamon powder
-Vanilla scent (liquid)
-Sugar
-Milk
-Butter
-White bread
I always begin by warming up the milk a little bit in a pot. You need it warm but not hot.
While it was on the stove I started to mix in a bowl the egg, two tablespoons of sugar, the vanilla scent, and the cinnamon. After I mixed everything well, I added the milk.
Once it was all blended I added one loaf of the bread, to let it rest and absorb the mix until it is completely moist.
Place a pan on the stove at medium flame until it is very hot, and then add 1/3 tablespoon of butter, and once it has melted, add two tablespoons of sugar to it.
Right after adding the sugar to the butter, add to the pan the loaf of bread that is moist inside the mix. It is very important that the stove is not at high flame, but more a controlled medium flame, because the butter and the sugar can burn really fast and you can end up having a black and sour caramel on the bread that is not very tasty.
After 4-5 minutes, turn it around to get it toasted on the other side as well. Whenever we are cooking with butter and sugar we obtain caramel, and it is important that we are careful to make contact with it while it is too hot because the burns made by caramel are very dangerous and painful, so you need to pay attention to it at all times, and away from your skin and safely always.
Voilá, after cooking for 4-5 minutes on each side, the toast is ready. I made a couple of them, using the same mix to get moist like 6 loaves of bread, for my boyfriend and me to have breakfast.
Traditionally this dish was created by leftovers from bread from bakeries that were added to the leftovers from the different mixes used to make cakes, so the bread would absorb all of this liquid, and then they would cook it on a pan as an easy meal usually in the mornings before work.
When I worked as an au pair or nanny, I used to make this for breakfast A LOT for the kids, and they loved it, and I’m guessing that it has to do with the soft texture but also for the caramel and the sweet which they adore obviously. Maybe it is not the healthiest choice to have for breakfast, but as long as you’re not doing it every day, once in a while is very fine. The other advantage of this recipe is that it is so easy to make that also kids can do it themselves, and is a good way to teach them how to cook.
I hope that you enjoyed this recipe and I thank you so much. If you took the time to check on my post, do not hesitate to comment if you liked it or anything at all. Regards to everybody! until next time.
César.
