Downtown Charleston finally has it's new Mexican restaurant 🇲🇽🌮🌯
It has been known by many for well over a year that a new Mexican restaurant was set to open in Charleston. Those who frequent downtown surely have noticed the colorful Cozumel Express sign next to Graziano's by now. For reasons unknown, the opening took much longer than many expected. It most likely was due to the fact that restaurants worldwide all felt a similar struggle thanks to many new health restrictions that were forced upon us with COVID. This demoralization was not enough to keep Cozumel Express from eventually completing their new restaurant.
Cozumel Express is officially open now and I am here to tell you everything that you need to know about it.
Location and Hours 📍⌚️
Cozumel Express opens at 11 am every day except Sunday when they are closed. As you can see, Thurs-Sat will be ideal for those that wish to stay out late into the night. You can call 691-265-0570 to place to-go orders. The restaurant sits just past Adelphia and Pies & Pints at 241 Capitol St, directly beside Graziano's Pizza.
Street parking is an option, but it may be best to opt for garage parking on Summers St. Many will be walking here though no doubt.
The front window looks out onto Captiol and Lee St.
To-go orders can be found sitting on the shelf right next to the register.
Such a gorgeous restaurant 🌄🤩
The interior is beautifully decorated and really gives you a feel for just how amazing of a place Mexico is. The colorful atmosphere mixed with great service and location truly makes for wonderful addition to the Downtown Charleston restaurant lineup. Just look at that radiant sunset mural on the bottom of the custom bar. Magnificent details throughout this long and narrow building are enclosed by cozy brick walls.
Not many are aware that this place is open just yet. I have a feeling this bar will become quite popular very soon. Happy hour is 2-5 pm.
There is close to a dozen tables and even more bar chairs available for seating. This place goes further back than you might imagine.
Four massive TVs make for an excellent place to pop in and watch some sports while having a few drinks with new and old friends alike.
Excellent choice on the countertops.
The Menu 🍽
The menu has your typical Mexican dishes, but it is much more concise than your average Mexican restaurant. The design of the menu is very appealing and easy to navigate. This is how all places should be doing their menus. One of the best parts is that lunch-sized portions are available at any time.
Appetizers, Lupita bowls, quesadillas, tacos, burritos, nachos, and even some vegetarian options. Plenty of things to choose from on the front side.
Flip it over to the back and you have the higher-priced house specialties. You can also find an assortment of dips, side options, the lunch menu, and of course the drinks.
My food 😋
My first order was a lunch-sized chicken chimichanga. It was plenty big enough to fill me up and was under $10! I have also tried a custom shrimp chimichanga and the steak Lupita bowl. A total of three visits so far and many more to come no doubt. Each time I have left satisfied with my experience.
This place deserves to be recognized as one of Downtown Charleston, WV's greatest options for both food and drink. The atmosphere is ideal and the location convenient. The employees have been nothing but great so far as well. You can expect quick and fair service, hence the "Express" portion of the name. Don't be afraid to stop in sometime and have a tasty meal alone or with some friends.
