While in Spain we tried to find a good Japanese restaurant. We are both crazy about sashimi. But sadly all the ones we tried were very disappointing. The quality of the raw fish was what we call "supermarket quality". After a couple of tries we gave up. In Belgium we have our favorite restaurant with very high quality.
Yesterday we placed our order at Doragon Sushi. We had to wait 1 hour to get it delivered. But yesterday was an official holiday in Belgium (Ascension Day) and the restaurant has a good reputation, so we didn't mind the waiting... It was worth it!
We took a lot of different dishes and we would take our time and make it a lovely evening. We started with the Teriyaki skewers as they were the only hot dishes. We had salmon and shrimp Teriyaki skewers. On the sticks there's also spring onion and of course the yummy Teriyaki sauce. We love it! As a side dish we had wakame (seaweed) with sliced avocado. The wakame is a kind of seaweed or kelp (Undaria pinnatifida) with a subtly sweet taste.
Next we had the salmon (sake) sashimi which we dipped in soy sauce with wasabi paste. The restaurant also offers tuna (maguro), bass (shibasu), eel (unagi), red snapper (tai), Capelin roe (masago), shrimp (ebi) and squid (ika). This time we took the salmon. Most of the times we take a mix of 2 or 3 different ones.
We also had some edamame (soybeans) together with the sashimi. We put some extra Himalayan salt on top of it to empower the taste. The beans are steamed and served while still in their pod. I prefer them this way. You put a pod in your mouth and suck out the beans.
Ready for round 3! The sushi rolls and nigiri. I wanted a handroll (temaki) but we made a mistake while placing the order and the result was nigiri (hand-pressed sushi). Next time we need to be more careful when ordering :)
The sushi roll was filled with tuna, spicy mayo, avocado and crunchies. The nigiri was topped with surimi (not my favorite).
Last but not least we had the sake butsu dish. This is marinated salmon with garlic, ginger and coriander mixed with avocado and chopped spring onions. This is my favorite dish and I always keep that as the last one.
No need to say we had a great evening with delicious food. Can't wait till the next time we will order some Japanese!
