Closed kitchen
It's Sunday, it's Sunday...the day that the stove is not turned on, at least not in my house, today is a day to go into the kitchen just to eat, not to cook, no sir...today is a day to rest, watch movies, relax without guilt, and why not, give us a treat out of the routine.
Es domingo, es domingo… el día que no se enciende la estufa, al menos no la de mi casa, hoy es un día para entrar a la cocina solo para comer, no así para cocinar, no señor…hoy es un día para descansar, ver películas, flojear sin culpas, y por qué no, darnos un gustico fuera de la rutina.
A song awakened the craving
Last December with the issue that I gave positive for Covid many of our plans and celebrations were frustrated, many feasts were left pending and many cravings too, but these days we decided that while we are alive it's time to live without procrastinating too much. A few days ago my children were singing the single of Arturo's chicken: "if you want the crunchiest and tastiest chicken, stop by Arturo's now"_, a very Venezuelan classic that I have hummed many times; well, that song I think it had the same effect on everyone here at home, the taste memory was activated and the craving arose irremediably.
El pasado mes de diciembre con el tema que di positivo para Covid se frustraron muchos de nuestros planes y celebraciones, muchas comelonas quedaron pendientes y muchos antojos también, pero estos días decidimos que mientras estemos vivos toca vivir sin estar postergando demasiado. Hace unos días mis hijos andaban cantando el single de pollos Arturo's: “si tú quieres el pollo más crujiente y más sabroso, pasa por Arturo's ya”, un clásico muy venezolano que yo he tarareado también muchas veces; bueno, ese cántico creo que surtió el mismo efecto en todos aquí en casa, la memoria gustativa se nos activó y surgió irremediablemente el antojo.
Special fried chicken
I really don't know what the secret of this fast-food chain is, there are many places where you can get a good fried chicken, but their chicken is unmatched, I can't compare it, it's unique. Of course, this is not a treat that we can give ourselves often, eating there has always been a little expensive if we compare it with what it would cost elsewhere, and even more, if we compare it with preparing it at home, but a treat from time to time is fair and necessary.
Yo la verdad no sé cuál es el secreto de esta cadena de comida rápida, hay muchos lugares donde conseguir un buen pollo frito, pero el pollo de ellos es inigualable, no lo puedo comparar, es único. Claro está que este no es un gusto que podamos darnos con frecuencia, comer allí siempre ha resultado un poquito costoso si lo comparamos con lo que costaría en otro lugar, y más aún, si lo comparamos con prepararlo en casa, pero un gustico de vez en cuando es justo y necesario.
Ordering lunch
We decided that today we would treat ourselves, so I logged on to the PedidosYa app to check prices, and without thinking too much about it, I started adding the chosen menu to the shopping cart:
A Fiesta Pack of 12 pieces of chicken, a family portion of fries, and 3 sauces: two honey mustard and one spicy. I skipped the salad because for prevention in the spread of the virus I usually put already prepared meals in the heat of the oven, and with the salad, I could not do the same, so I prepared it here at home, it is not much work and honestly, I like my recipe better: purple and white cabbage in the same proportion, a carrot, and a green apple, all that to the food processor, and then dressed with a sauce based on mayonnaise, Greek yogurt, honey, lemon, salt, and pepper...a fresh and delicious salad, my children's favorite.
Decidimos que hoy nos daríamos ese gustico, por lo que entré a la aplicación de PedidosYa para consultar los precios, y sin pensarlo mucho para no arrepentirme empecé a agregar al carrito de compras el menú elegido:
Un Fiesta Pack de 12 piezas de pollo, una ración familiar de papas fritas, y 3 salsas: dos de mostaza miel y una picante. La ensalada la obvié, porque por prevención en la propagación del virus suelo someter a las comidas ya elaboradas al calor del horno, y con la ensalada no podría hacer lo mismo, así que eso si corrió por mi cuenta, la preparé aquí en casa, tampoco es mucho trabajo y sinceramente me gusta más mi receta: repollo morado y blanco en la misma proporción, una zanahoria, y una manzana verde, todo eso a la procesadora de alimentos, para luego aderezar con una salsa a base de mayonesa, yogurt griego, miel, limón, sal y pimienta…una ensalada fresca y deliciosa, la favorita de mis hijos.
After completing the order on the app, the purchase totaled $29.7. I know that many might think that with that we could buy two roasted chickens with desserts included, and yes it is true, but it was fried chicken that we wanted to eat, and not just any, we wanted to taste the one from Arturo's chickens, we skipped the hallacas in December, giving us this treat was more than deserved.
Completada la orden en la aplicación, la compra ascendió a un total de $29,7. Se que muchos podrían pensar que con eso pudimos comprar dos pollos asados con postres incluidos, y sí es verdad, pero era pollo frito lo que queríamos comer, y no cualquiera, queríamos degustar el de pollos Arturo's, nos saltamos las hallacas en diciembre, darnos este gusto estaba más que merecido.
Delivery is here
It arrived, it arrived...I can't explain the smell when I opened that magic box, nor how much I had to restrain myself not to nibble the fries the first time, but as I told you before, the protocol is to go first to the oven for about 5 minutes, time that took forever while that smell made us salivate, well, anyone really.
Llegó, llegó…no puedo explicar el olor al abrir esa cajita mágica, ni lo que tuve que contenerme para no picotear las papitas a la primera, pero como les dije antes el protocolo es ir primero al horno por unos 5 minutos, tiempo que se nos hizo eterno mientras ese olor nos hacía salivar, bueno a cualquiera en realidad.
Happy hour
Finally, happy hour...a nice piece of fried chicken accompanied by french fries, a good portion of coleslaw, and of course, sauces...goodbye diet, welcome to enjoy. Biting into that crispy chicken after dipping it in sweet and spicy mustard simultaneously, I enjoyed every bite without any remorse...what a great thing.
Finalmente, la hora feliz…una buena pieza de pollo a la broaster acompañada de papitas fritas, una buena ración de ensalada de coles, y por supuesto, salsitas…adiós dieta, bienvenido el disfrute. Morder ese pollo tan crujiente luego de humedecerlo en mostaza dulce y picante simultáneamente, me supo a gloria, me deleité con cada bocado sin remordimiento alguno…que cosa más buena.
My dear friends, it is worth working to live, otherwise, it sounds too perverse when time is so short. And that is what living is, collecting moments, experiences, flavors, indulging in pleasures...and eating is one of those great pleasures that gladden the soul.
Mis estimados amigos, se vale trabajar para vivir, lo contrario suena demasiado perverso cuando el tiempo es tan breve. Y vivir es eso, coleccionar momentos, vivencias, sabores, dar gusto a los placeres…y comer es uno de esos grandes placeres que alegran el alma.
