I had been wanting to add gochujang into my kitchen ingredients list but due to its expensive price, I put on hold. Last week, when I visited a grocery shop, the boss asked me whether did I fancy gochujang. That was because he had some which was going to expire in the month of December and he wanted to sell at clearance price. It was RM15 for 1kg, so I bought one. Like, yayyyy, finally!!!
Gochujang is a fermented Korean condiment, thick paste made from red chillies, salt, glutinous rice and fermented soybeans. Anything with fermented soybeans will surely create an umami dish, and mind you, it can be addictive. It has that savoury taste, salty yet also some sweetness. Overall, it is super delicious.
I had some pork fillet, so let's!
Gochujang Pork Slices
I bought this red one which is medium hot bean paste.
Firstly, sliced the pork fillet thinly and washed clean.
I then marinated the pork slices with some cornstarch to tenderise it. Added in also some pepper and soy sauce. Followed by a tablespoon of the gochujang paste. Stir to mix, then set aside for one hour.
Meawhile, I prepared diced potatoes, diced garlic and big onions.
Done marinating, let's cook!
In a pot, heated up some pork oil, add in the garlic and onions, sautéed till super aromatic.
Then, the marinated pork slices would be added in. Keep on stir frying for about 2-3 minutes till the meat was almost cooked. At this point, you could smell the flavor from the gochujang. Hmmm!! Nice!!
Then, I added in some water because we loved more saucy kind of meal, especially the mixed the sauce with our rice. After adding the water, I noticed I needed to add somemore gochujang. So another tablespoon of gochujang.
Lastly, added in the potatoes and let this simmer till the potatoes were soft. At this point, I couldn't resist. Went and took a tablespoon to slurp the gochujang sauce. Haha!
Voila!
The gochujang pork slices with potatoes was done!
Scooped them out into a serving dish plate. And we were ready to delve into it. We ate the gochujang pork slices with white rice, our staple food. So, so, delicious, that I helped myself with another serving of rice. Opsie! It was slightly pepperish for the young one but he loved it too and he ate a lot of rice with this appetizing dish. Yayyy!!
Next, I am going to find out all dishes which can be cooked by using gochujang paste.
