I am so grateful to parents-in-law who helped to take care of the boys so that my husband and I got to go out together for some precious moments. Life had been hectic since I started being a part-time tutor and we consistently needed to arrange time to ensure the house is being taken care of. Today, finally, we managed to make such arrangement for a special day out, not whole day, but I am grateful for the 6 hours together, just husband and I.
After picking up my eldest son from school, we straight away sent him and our youngest son to their Grandparents' house. Then, off we went for a date. 🤭 I taught my boys that mummy daddy needed to go paktor. Husband suggested to go downtown KL for beef noodle, a place he frequented during his young time, no wonder he insisted I wore sport shoes. Initially, I wanted to go for mamak's beef or kambing rendang, but he suggested Chinese Beef Noodle, why not?
Shin Kee Beef Noodle
Location: 7a, Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
It is an old shop, and of course feels like an old shop. Clean and neat, that's all matter. It is not big but the warmth and friendliness from the chef and waiters and waitresses gave us huge sense of warmth.
This is a famous beef noodle at Kuala Lumpur and had been there like forever, as far as I could remember. Today, when we went, it was no longer an old uncle who operated it but a young man around my age, good to see someone younger is willing to inherit the business. There was news from newspaper, sticked on the wall, as well as an old photo of the pioneer owners. Precious.
Menu
The menu is simple, either you want dry beef noodle or soup beef noodle.
Beef Noodle Dry with Fresh Meat
I ordered a bowl of dry beef noodle, meaning the yellow noodle. The waiter asked me what did I want in my soup. There were options of fresh meat only, beef ball and meat, as well as mixed all types into the soup. I felt like eating just the beef fresh meat. I super love the dry noodle and wished they put more of the flavourful minced beef into the bowl of noodle. The beef in the soup was thinly sliced and super soft. The soup had that beefy fragrant taste, I drank the whole bowl till squeeky clean.
Beef Kuey Teow dry with mixed soup
Husband always love his with kuey teow, a flattened rice noodle, usually white in colour, unlike my yellow noodle. He claimed that kuey teow will be able to absorb all the aroma, and true enough, his bowl of dry kuey teow beef was more delicious than mine. His mixed soup contained fresh beef slices, beef balls and beef stomach.
The beef slices and beef balls were so delicious, paired so well with their signature chilli sauce, that umami flavour, I wanted more, felt like not enough. I was surprised that they did not have beef tendon today, oh well perhaps we were late for lunch, by the time we arrived it was 3pm, I should come again another time to order LARGE kuey teow beef noodle dry!!!
