Impromptu Lunch at Checkpoint!
Sometime back, we had an impromptu early dinner with the in-laws. I forgot what errand were we running but right after the tasks, we were all very hungry although it was still 5pm. Hence, we decided to eat our super early dinner at Checkpoint.
Checkpoint Setapak Cafe
Location: 257, Jalan Ayer Jerneh, Taman Ayer Panas, 53200 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
Surrounding and Ambience
According to my husband, it used to be a land owned by bus company called Len Seng, either for parking the buses or some other stuff related to the buses (which I can't recall exactly what was mentioned by my husband).
Therefore, it was a big land, spacious and parking was not a problem at all. Lots of space still for some walking outside. Then, you will see the built-up for the cafe. And a nice purple wall with sofa for guest. How cute!
I quite like the designs there with lots of plants too for greeneries, together with many arts posters as well as tea display.
Look at those hanging greens.
And the many arts display.
A section of magazines and comics
It was thoughtful of them to prepare a section of books, magazines and comics for guests to entertain themselves. Cool!
One could choose to sit upstairs too whereby you would be more direct to the sunlight as it was quite an open concept upstairs. We all agreed to sit at ground floor.
Menu
The menu was rather simple, and I preferred simple menu, easier to choose what to eat. They served breakfast set, croissant set, spaghetti, meat dish, some locals as well as burgers. Not to forget, people highly recommended their coffee
Food we ordered
My mother-in-law told us that they had super good pastries, especially the croissant. My eldest straight away focused on the croissant section and chose croissant with scrambled egg and chicken slices. It came with some salad. See, he was happy.
My youngest son ordered beef bolognese, one of his favourite dishes. To be shared with his brother. This was one of the super delicious beef bolognese around. Loads of beef and authentic bolognese sauce.
My husband ordered grilled chicken chop and he said the chicken was really good! It came with fries and salad too. Delicious! And also a cup of mocha to be shared with me.
I am a local food lovers, and lean more towards Chinese or Korean or Japanese tastebud, so I ordered fresh fish fillet noodle soup. Anyway, I was good enough but wasn't as good as I thought, but still alright.
My father-in-law ordered Checkpoint breakfast as they served this whole day regardless the name. It came with a sausage, hash brown, mushrooms, salad, croissant with your choice of egg; sunny side, scrambled or omelette, father-in-law chose scrambled. He super loved it, especially his cup of Americano.
My mother-in-law was the only one not too hungry. She ordered from the pastries section — German sausage and Ham&Cheese Danish.
She also got to talk to one of the waiters which was not from Malaysia, but he was praising Malaysias being so kind and generous and helpful, that we are nice people! And that he was under the training to be the chef there. But he wanted to start as waiter to get the gist of it. Such humble man! We wish you the best!
Before we went home, I had a look at the pastries section. I bought one Fruit Danish, one Sausage German pastry and one Ham & Cheese Danish. Yums!
We had a slow dinner because time was still so early. We got to chitchat, I got to walk around admiring those arts, my boys got to hang out with their grandparents. A nice place for friends gathering and a superb place for eating if you don't mind the higher price.
