One experience that one must try when visiting Siargao Island here in the Philippines is having that memorable mouthwatering foodgasm that leaves you wanting more. And that is just what I am about to share here now.
Well, not that we planned on dining at LOKANTO. It was a mere coincidence since the venue for the Zouk Dance Workshop in which we participated was located on the second floor of the establishment. The workshop took about 3 hours of nonstop dancing and we were already tired to even look for other places to find something to eat; so why not just try what the restaurant has to offer?
LOKANTO is located at Purok 5, Tourism Road, General Luna. It's right beside PWESTO Café. It seems like they only have one owner though.
From the roadside, the place already looks so inviting with its coastal ambiance, beach sand, and tropical plants. The architectural design of the building with its wooden furniture and walls, and thatch roofing brings this local but classy vibe. You can also dine in the open area in front if you prefer the fresh air.
You will even love it more when you head inside the restaurant. The rustic decor and soft lighting just created that warm, cozy, and relaxing atmosphere. We settled at the table near the arch glass window. And at the far end was this huge bar where they prepare and serve the drinks.
Upon seeing the menu (sorry, forgot to take pictures), we decided to get unique dishes for us to share so that at least we could try to taste more than one food. The prices are above average but I was willing to shell out more so I could eat something "delicious" (hopefully).
SHAKSHUKA
Our first dish is this tasty Shakshuka with Pita Bread! It looks so exotic (for me) only because this was my first time to eat one.
Shakshuka is poached eggs in spicy tomato sauce paired with thin-crust crunchy bread/dough. I love the sauce as it had this taste of sourness, sweetness, and spiciness all together! I didn't want to stop munching it. The serving of Pita wasn't enough for the three of us and so we ordered another set of it.
This dish is great as an appetizer or snack!
FRIED CHICKEN
When the serving of Fried Chicken came, I thought it was just ordinary looking. And the pieces were small. I was thinking how my hunger would be satisfied with just this. But I was deceived by its looks. Without even dipping in a sauce, it was bursting with flavor from the unique blend of Mediterranean spices!
The sauce was creamy but had this light taste so it was just the perfect blend. Tasty and flavorful for sure!
BEEF GYRO
Our last dish was their Beef Gyro with French Fries on the side. They were just generous with the amount of beef on it and filled with onions, cucumber, and tomatoes and these rich spices. The pita shell was soft and had a little touch of saltiness. When I had my first bite of it, it was a delightful treat that screamed "mouthwatering goodness". Even my friends agreed with my sentiments.
I also enjoyed the barbeque-flavored, crispy French Fries!
The Beef Gyro was all worth it and relieved me from my exhaustion from the dance workshop we did before having our dinner.
They offer some cocktails and alcoholic drinks but we preferred that night for a bottle of wine! We ended our dinner with this lovely chat with other participants from the workshop and full bellies!
Lokanto just provided a relaxing, vibrant space with savory, delicious meals we needed to end our day! Make sure to visit the place on your Siargao escapade.
