Lunch in a traditional highland inn 🐑 Dumplings with potato and cottage cheese stuffing sprinkled with parsley and cracklings / Ruskie pierogi z karczmy góralskiej

During my stay in Zakopane, I really wanted to eat dinner in a highlander's inn. I chose Zapiecek on Krupówki Street. This inn has 9,000 reviews on Google, mostly positive. I had to wait in the queue in front of the entrance, because apart from me, there were a lot of people willing to enter the restaurant. Fortunately, there are plenty of seats in the inn and I think I didn't wait 10 minutes and I managed to get inside. I was delighted with the decor of Zakopane's Zapiecek. The interior looked like a traditional highlander's cottage. Many of its features were wooden, including tables and seating. At the ceiling in the middle of the largest room hung a huge wooden sled, which may have once been used for sleigh rides.

Podczas pobytu w Zakopanem bardzo chciałam zjeść obiad w góralskiej karczmie. Wybrałam Zapiecek na Krupówkach. Ta karczma ma 9000 opini na Google, w większości pozytywne. Musiałam poczekać w kolejce przed wejściem, bo oprócz mnie było sporo osób chętnych, żeby wejść do restauracji. Na szczęście w karczmie jest dużo miejsc i myślę, że nie czekałam 10minut i już udało mi się wejść do środka. Zachwycił mnie wystrój zakopiańskiego Zapiecka. Wnętrze wyglądało jak tradycyjna góralska chata. Wiele jego elementów było drewnianych, w tym stoły i miejsca do siedzenia. Przy suficie na środku największej sali wisiały ogromne drewniane sanie, które być może kiedyś były wykorzystywane do kuligów.

There was a festive atmosphere in the inn. There was still a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, as well as other Christmas decorations, such as long branches of conifers decorated with glowing colored lights. When I was inside, a nice waiter, dressed in a traditional highland costume, approached me and showed me my place. It was upstairs. It was perfect. With a view of what is happening in the inn, from above, and at the same time, providing a lot of privacy.

W karczmie czuć było świąteczną atmosferę. Wciąż znajdowała się tam pięknie przystrojona choinka, a także inne świąteczne ozdoby, np. długie gałęzie iglaków ozdobione świecącymi kolorowymi lampkami. Gdy byłam w środku podszedł do mnie miły kelner, ubrany w tradycyjny góralski strój i wskazał mi moje miejsce. Znajdowało się na górze. Było idealne. Z widokiem na to co się dzieje w karczmie, z góry, a zarazem na uboczu, zapewniające dużo prywatności.

The menu was very interesting and regional. You could order highlander dishes, such as sour soup, dumplings with sheep cheese, moskol (i.e. a highlander pancake made of boiled potatoes baked on a baking sheet) with boletus sauce and grated sheep cheese, or lamb stew with hałuski (potato noodles) and pickled cucumber, and to drink, for example, a 40% Highlander Burning 😉. I chose traditional dumplings with potato and cottage cheese stuffing.

Menu było bardzo ciekawe i regionalne. Można było zamówić góralskie dania, jak zupę kwaśnicę, pierogi z bryndzą, moskol (czyli góralski placek z gotowanych ziemniaków upieczonych na blasze) z sosem borowikowym i startym oscypkiem, czy gulasz jagnięcy z hałuskami i ogórkiem kiszonym, a do picia np. 40% drink Góralska Przypalanka 😉. Ja wybrałam ruskie pierogi.

I waited about 10 minutes for dumplings. That time passed quickly. Traditional highlander music was playing from the loudspeakers in the inn. In many taverns, highlander bands perform in the evening. I saw from above that there was a queue of people willing to have dinner in this place all the time in front of the entrance to the inn.

Na pierożki czekałam ok.10 minut. Ten czas szybko mi minął. Z głośników w karczmie leciała tradycyjna góralska muzyka. W Wielu karczmach, w godzinach wieczornych występują kapele góralskie. Widziałam z góry, że cały czas przed wejściem do knajpy ustawiała się kolejka ludzi, chętnych na obiad w tym miejscu.

The dumplings were delicious. Certainly one of the best I've eaten in my life, so the crowds in front of this inn don't come out of nowhere. The dough was tender and the stuffing was well seasoned and very tasty. The crackers were also good. All served on a nice plate with a blue leaf pattern. It felt very homely. If someone wants to eat something very tasty and good quality in Zakopane, I definitely recommend this inn.

Pierogi były przepyszne. Na pewno jedne z najlepszych jakie jadłam w moim życiu, więc tłumy przed tą karczmą nie biorą się znikąd. Ciasto było delikatne, a farsz dobrze doprawiony i bardzo smaczny. Skwarki też niezłe. Aa całość podana na fajnym talerzu w niebieski wzór w listki. Można się było poczuć bardzo swojsko. Jak ktoś chce zjeść coś dobrego w Zakopanem, zdecydowanie polecam tę karczmę.
