Ten years of sweetness and goodness!
Hi! Hive community! and hello to my dear foodies. How did you spend your Christmas day? or if you are not celebrating Christmas how did you celebrate the holidays? Do you also have festive celebrations during this time?
Today, I would like to share my baking journey throughout the years.
Baking: for some it is a hobby, for others it is a way of living but for me baking has been my therapy. It gives me peace, a sense of self-worth and a certain tranquility. It relaxes my mind as it relaxes my soul. It really makes me happy.
I have started learning baking and cooking when I first worked overseas. I must live alone, very far from home and I have nothing and no one to rely on. I have myself and I need to learn!
In 2011, I came to Switzerland to worked as an au pair. When I first came there, I was so amaze of mostly everything. From the sceneries to the household things especially with the kitchen equipment’s. They have dishwasher, microwave, and oven which not typically seen in a Filipino household. Then I also met some friends there, they are also expats like me. One of them was Vaani. I met her in my German language class. She is a housewife, and she usually makes use of her time to learn new things. Then she started to bake some goodies since vegan desserts are quite expensive. I still remember when she baked that vegan banana bread. I was so amazed how it turns out to be so good without adding any milk and eggs. So, I asked her if I she could give me that recipe so I could try to recreate that vegan banana cake. Then, poof! The rest was history!
These were my first attempts. Others are burnt but with practice, it gets better.
When I started learning to bake a cake, I decided I wanted to learn more. So, I kept educating myself with new things to make like a bread, cookies, cheesecake and so on. Google and YouTube were a friend. I also had a fair share of ups and down with baking especially with breads 😅.
Keto Cake option!
My Fondant designs over the years. A skateboard themed cake and a Dino cake for my son.
Baking brings back so many memories. But if there is one thing, I have learned from it, is that it is also like our lives. It will not always go on our way, some days it will be perfect, and some days will just be hard, but no matter what happen we will keep pushing until we finally make it right; AND THAT IS THE SWEETNESS OF LIFE! The whole journey. 💕
