Gloomy weather, cold and rainy, one of those days that makes you sleepy and tired. The children got nervous, especially the younger daughter, so it was time to play with the dough and make something beautiful and very tasty. This time I decided to make dough sticks with a salty white topping. These wonderful, gentle, cotton, soft, delicious sticks are fantastic, like from a bakery. Dough games are mesmerizing for children, so the atmosphere in the house changed as soon as I mentioned making dough sticks! Kids adore them! So let's start.
Ingredients:
1 kg of flour
2 bags of dry yeast
600 ml of milk
1.5 teaspoons sugar
1.5 teaspoons salt
50 g butter
1dl oil
1 egg yolk for coating
Тopping:
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 3 tablespoons of salt
- cold water
- a little baking powder (half a teaspoon)
Pour dry yeast with sugar into 1 dl of warm milk and wait for the yeast to "work". Put flour in a deeper bowl, then add a mixture of yeast and milk. Slowly add the rest of the milk, then the oil and salt.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface and leave it for about half an hour to "rest" and rise. After that knead the dough again.
Then divide the dough into two parts, and 9 to 10 balls of dough from each part. Knead the dough balls a little and roll them into long sticks.
Put the dough sticks on baking paper, coat with beaten egg yolk, and place in a preheated oven. Bake for about 20 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.
While the sticks are baking, prepare the topping. Mix three tablespoons of flour and three tablespoons of salt and about half a teaspoon of baking powder. Slowly add cold water and stir at the same time so that no lumps form. Add water until a mixture is obtained that is as thick as a pancake mixture.
After about fifteen minutes, take the sticks out of the oven. With a spoon, pour the topping over them, as in the picture. Return to the oven and bake for another five minutes.
When they are done take them out of the oven and cover them with a cloth to rest.
Our bakery game was over. We were just real professional bakers! The making process was a pleasure, especially for my daughter, who made a big creative mess :)
I hope you liked our game and our product - wonderful and delicious dough sticks with salty topping. We had a good time and ate well :)
I wish you a pleasant rest of the day. Thanks for stopping by!
