A quick post about some meals and food that we ate in Germany. I hope you enjoy.
The first meal was a dinner in Nuremberg on day one. It had a sort of medeival theme to it, which was fun and somewhat unique. I think that it was medeival but it could have been Renaissance or based on some other old timey historical period.
Anyway, the dishware was clay earthenware and they served mead and stews and the waitress dressed in old style Inn outfits.
It took forever to be served despite not being very busy in there but the food was decent overall. We didn't bother getting any dessert because of how long the wait times were and instead just grabbed some ice cream on our walk back to our hotel.
The next meal was lunch in Bamberg at a spot in the old town. It wasn't anything fancy and wasn't at one of the restaurants located on the water, but the food and service were both really good.
I had the schnitzel and my wife had the fried Buratta.
The next meal was another dinner in Nuremberg. It was in a really unassuming restaurant with very simple traditional food. I forget what I ordered specifically but as you can see it was a huge chunk of pork with a large dumpling accompanying it.
This meal was slightly awkward for us because the restaurant had no private tables that night, so we were seated at a large table meant for sharing with others. We generally aren't very sociable and neither were the other 6 people at the table, so we all just sat there and ate in silence. I barely even spoke to my wife because it felt awkward having a conversation in front of a bunch of strangers. It was fine in the end just not really our "cup of tea," as they say.
Our last meal was by far the best. It was at an Italian restaurant in Nuremberg. My wife and I both ordered the exact same dish, truffle pasta with tiramisu for dessert and a glass of red wine. All parts of the meal were fantastic. I wish I could remember the name to recommend it.
That night we had actually tried going to another location but that ended up being a minor fiasco. Reviews of the place were really good so we took a table in the empty restaurant and accepted a bottle of water. While perusing the menu we noticed that it was a set menu with a few different options that we couldn't quite understand given the way that it was worded. There were different prices based on if you wanted a Waygu beef course or alcoholic drinks or non. The waitress clarified and we learned that the meal would cost us around 185-225 euro per person! It wasn't a Michelin star restaurant but clearly they were aiming in that direction. We decided that it was way too expensive for us and quickly paid for our water and got the hell out of there. The waitress was pretty understanding and acted like that has happened before on more than one occasion. Luckily there were no other patrons in the restaurant at that time so we didn't end up making a fool of ourselves in front of others.
We ended up going to the Italian place afterwards and we're very happy with our decision.
