Welcome back to my cooking lab!
There's always a first time for everything. Just like yesterday, it was my first time baking lasagna.
I am 23 years old and only yesterday, I tasted an actual lasagna instead of a cheap fake lasagna from the market. My first impression of baking the lasagna was tricky. I did not know that baking a lasagna would take some details and precision in terms of oven temperature. Even so, the lasagna I made are partly comes from instant product.
I used an instant sheet in this recipe. There are some brands in the market but I chose one that sounds more italian, Balducci. It comes with about 10 sheets of lasagna.
In this recipe, I was using instant bolognese sauce instead of making it from scratch. I ain't got no time making tomato sauce from scratch. HOWEVER...
I made the cheese sauce from scratch using butter, milk, cheese, and 2 spoons of flour with 2 spoons of mayo.
I saw that in cooking tutorials people use caserole dish. Since I don't have one, I was using a simple baking round try that sort of fits the sheets.
I also added thyme on top of the cheese layer. Because why not?
My layer is basically bolognese, then cheese, and bolognese again then cheese. I was going to make a tall one but since it was my first time, I decided to experiment a bit. My rookie mistake is that I instantly put the tray inside the oven instead of letting the oven heat up. It made some sheets of my lasagna was undercooked.
It was so satisfying seeing the cheese starts to cook and melt.
Though my family says that the lasagna tastes alright, I still think that some of the sheets were really undercooked.
Oh yeah, I also left the oven and forgot to turn it off. So the surface looks a bit burnt. I covered it up with more cheese and it was extremely cheese and tomato-ish. I am not sure I really like how those thing tasted because when I saw cooking shows, they always make a lasagna to die for. Sadly though, to me my lasagna was mediocre and needs a lot of improvements.
