Waking up early is such a rarity for me. But since I promised my sister to wake up early and visited a place with a delicious breakfast deal, I forced myself to wake up very early. My sister told me about a place called Shivaraja’s Secret Garden. It’s location is in a posh area of Malang, East Java called Ijen. In that area, there are plenty western fast food and even starbucks. The restaurants around this Area are also most mid to high-end offering western and continental cuisines.
It was my second day in Malang. I arrived the previous day during the afternoon. But yesterday, I didn’t go anywhere other than a bistro called Soux which I will be writing about later. This time, I will be telling you about my first experience having breakfast with a view.
My sister picked me up from the hotel at 7 AM where I was still trying to grasp reality. It was rare for me to wake up that early. But having told, that we would eat amazing food, I woke myself up and got ready.
Shivaraja’s Secret Garden is located on the 3rd floor of Jl Ijen No.79. On the second floor there is a place called Pelataran Ijen. But to reach Shivaraja, you have to take the lift that will exactly take you to the venue. In this place, their concept is outdoor and indoor cafe with western and Asian cuisines.
Why Do I Say Breakfast With A View?
In their mini glass house alongside the bar, guests will be treated with a view of nearby mountains. The architecture complements the surrounding view and the nature of the mountain and the hills. It was refreshing to see such sights.
When I reached there, it was not packed as I would have thought. Before we decided to sit, my sister roamed around to find the perfect spot for us to dine. Eventually, we sat at the corner and I could still see the mountain very clearly.
The waitress handed us the menu and we told them that we wanted to get the breakfast deal which consisted of one meal and free drinks. The menu of the breakfast included American style breakfast, Swedish Meatball, Indonesian Styled breakfast, and Savory Waffle.
I decided to get a hearty and filling American Breakfast while my sister picked the Waffle, as she already ate at her house.
The American Breakfast is almost complete to me except it does not have fried bacon. I wished they would serve fried bacon but they didn’t. It was just a beef sliced ham that had quite a taste of cheese. For 50.000IDR/person, the tea and the meal was just exceptional. I did not realize that it was quite reasonable to have breakfast with a view for that much. The same goes with my sister’s plate which looked very stylish, well done, and tasted pretty good.
The waffle was crunchy but not over crunchy. The salads that were with it were well-done. I seriously have no complaints about it. Whenever I am traveling with my sister, we always buy a different menu so that we can try each other’s meals.
After eating, I walked around the place to check out the interior and its exterior.
I think that it’s another unique find to me as they do a great job in mixing nature and industrialism in its design. This place is great for hanging out as well and having a chat with friends. But I reckon, it’s not a great place to work from.
The service though was subpar. I would not say it was good but it was quite decent. I have expected more but the food makes up for it. But overall, my experience here was great. It was my first memorable breakfast with a view. So, if you visit Malang, east-java I’d definitely suggest trying the meal from Sivaraja’s Secret Garden.
Stay tuned for a day adventure that I have in Malang!
