Dear lovers of good food and delicious desserts, today I remembered this old recipe that my grandmother prepared for me, today I gladly prepare it in my kitchen as a dessert or when I feel like eating something sweet, and I don't have much time to spend in the kitchen.
This oriental delicacy, which we love so much, was brought to our region by the Turks, so the word itself is sutlijaš of Turkish origin. However, sweet rice, which is usually enriched with cinnamon, with the addition of vanilla pudding, chocolate or can even be prepared with the addition of fruit, is not only a feature of our or Turkish cuisine, but is a phenomenon around the world.
It even seems that it has recently become very popular in our country and that you can find it in various catering facilities such as pastry shops or restaurants, while our grandmothers and mothers prepared it in their kitchens a long time ago.
This creamy dessert is simple both in composition and in the method of preparation. It is best to use it for sutlijaš, it is usually recommended to use short-grain rice.
Today I decided to prepare this old and very tasty treat.
INGREDIENTS:
- 150 grams of rice
- 150 grams of sugar
- 1 liter of milk
- 400 ml of water
- 1 vanilla pudding
- 1 vanilla sugar
PREPARATION:
Wash the rice through a stream of cold water, you can also leave it in clean water to stand for ten minutes.
in a certain bowl, add the rice, then add the water to it.
the pan in which you cook would be good to have a good bottom, so that the rice does not stick to the bottom of the pan during cooking.
Let the rice simmer until it absorbs all the water.
While the rice is cooking lightly, prepare the vanilla pudding.
add a little milk to the pudding powder and mix well so that no lumps remain.
When the rice has absorbed the water, add the milk and let it boil.
When it boils, add sugar and vanilla sugar, stirring constantly so that the rice does not stick to the bottom of the bowl.
leave it on low heat to cook slowly for at least another five minutes, the rice will release its starch and the mass will start to thicken.
At the end, add the prepared pudding, the mass will thicken nicely.
When everything boils together the pudding is done, you can serve it in glasses and decorate as desired.
This dessert can also be baked in the oven to get a brown crust, but I prefer it with cinnamon, chocolate topping with a little whipped cream.
