Fish is kind of our national food. One reason is Bangladesh is full of rivers and surrounded by the sea so that means unlimited sources of sweet water fish as well as seafood. Also, fish makes a good combo with rice.
We usually make fish curry every other day, there are hundreds of ways to prepare it so it never gets boring.
Today I'm gonna share what I usually prepare. Let me share the ingredients first.
What do we need?
- Any kind of fish you like, I took our local popular sweet water fish Rohu.
- Oil
- Onion
- Green chili
- Turmeric and red chili powder
- Salt
- Cumin seeds
- Coriander
- Tomato
- Capsicum (optional)
Let me share the step-by-step process.
- Cut, wash and marinate the fish pieces with a small amount of turmeric and chili powder with salt for a few minutes. And then fry them, don't make it crispy, just fry them for a minute to get rid of the raw smell of fish.
- Cook the spices. Add onion and green chili slices, some cumin, and then salt.
- Then add tomatoes, capsicum, coriander, etc. If you want to add potato or any other vegetable, you can add them too.
- Cook them for a few minutes and add the fried fish. Mix them with the ingredients for a few minutes. Add a little bit of water and put a lid on to cook them thoroughly.
- As the fishes are fried, they don't need much time to cook. Make a good gravy and turn the heat off.
That's it, that's how simple the curry is.
If you are not a fish lover then you can try this curry as well. It may not seem very appetizing at first glance but it's full of flavors and a good combo with rich. Also, you can add extra chili or tomato sauce, if you want to enhance the flavors. There are unlimited options.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.
