I am a resident student of Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall of Rajshahi University. There is a huge pond next to our hall. Residential students of Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall, Hossain Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall and Mother Box Hall usually bathe in this pond. Besides, the university administration cultivates fish in this pond. Any student of the university can fish in this pond without any hindrance. Yesterday, my three roommates and I went fishing in this pond. We mainly used nets for fishing. And I was able to catch about three kilograms of fish in one day with small and big fish.
After breakfast yesterday morning, the turn to cook fish started. The four of us made a variety of food items as well as cooking fish. However, in this article I will write about cooking fish. Read the whole article to get an idea about how Bengalis cook and eat fish.
The fish were first cut beautifully by removing the fish scales. Then the fish was washed thoroughly and salt, chilli powder and turmeric powder were applied and left for some time. Then I fried the fish nicely. However, fish can be cooked without frying. I personally can't eat that curry if the fish cooked without frying, so I fry fish before cooking.
When the fish was fried, I started frying it first with oil in the pan leaving the onion sprouts. When the color of the onion is almost red, we leave out the other spices. Other spices include ginger, garlic, hot spices, chilli powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, radhuni fish spice, coriander leaves, green chillies etc. The spices are heated for a while and given a small amount of water. The fried fish was released when the spice with this water started to boil. Then the fish was covered and the cooking process was completed by burning it as required.
To be honest, the fish curry was delicious. The four of us ate with great satisfaction. It was a wonderful moment to remember.
