Ayutthaya!
Few days ago, we randomly took a trip to a nearby province called Ayutthaya. The province used to be a Thailand's old capital hundreds of years ago so it would be quite interesting to show my foreign boyfriend around.
I asked my friend who lives there about places to go and she gave me a list of restaurants, cafes, and mostly just temples and historic places as mentioned, used to be a Thailand's old capital.
Besides their famous temple and historic sites, Ayutthaya's well-known food that you really gotta eat are giant river prawns, boat noodles, and ahem!.. this good looking sweet, Thai cotton candy!
Thai cotton candy (สายไหม)
Nope, not like cotton candy you have seen else where. It's a little thicker and melt a little slowly but still, made from all sugar! Normally it would be served with a roti dough so you can wrap the cotton candy around and eat it like a cotton candy roll.
Busaba's Thai cotton candy (สายไหม)
Though, this shop that was on my local friend recommendation list, 'Busaba Cafe & Bake Lab' make this type of cotton candy all interesting and different. Instead of having it wrapped in the dough, they make it fusion dessert dishes or fusion drinks with of course, that Thai cotton candy!
We ordered Cotton candy waffle ice-cream, cotton candy latte (yes! you read that right), and rose tea. All the food and drinks are good. I probably don't need to explain how they taste as you probably know how good waffle or coffee would taste like. I just would love to point out and share the creativity of how they mix and match this unique Thai dessert, Saimai (Thai cotton candy) with other dishes.
Thai fusion Dessert
Other than the cotton candy fusion dessert, they also offer a variety of desserts. Correction: good looking desserts. For example, this 'Kleep Lum Duan' an old school Thai dessert/snack I always love. I have never seen it with this combination of color (with the blue which I believe they get it from the butterfly pea flower color) combined with such great packaaging.
Around Busaba & Final thoughts
The place is spacious, minimal and clean. They have a separate building in the back, they have it as a Dessert bar where you can enjoy the process of Thai dessert making.
Pretty cool place to come hang out and have some great fusion dessert during the hot day! Which it was for sure super hot the day we went there.. so this place was a cooling heaven for half an hour.
Like the decor, love the dessert (don't order too much of those cotton candy dishes tho! it's quite sweet and almost too sweet after a while) and even love more of the creativity around the idea so, sure visit if you ever make it to Ayutthaya!
