I have been around the Bay Area for quite sometimes. We spent quite a lot of time in San Jose and every time we’re in town, we always go for Asian food, Asian store like, sushi, Korean food, Thai food, Mhong food. Never before had Persian/middle east in mind.
Just for the fact that when I think of San Jose, ‘The Asian city’ comes to mind because these past few years, the Asian population has been growing pretty rapidly according to what I have heard.
This last day in the US, for some reason, when my boyfriend asked if I wanted any dessert or any kinds of food before I leave the US, Baklava just came to mind randomly. We looked it up and there are quite a few places offering Persian desserts.
BAKLAVA
This Honey Bakery is the closest one to us and luckily, the best rated one so, here we go. A few homemade Persian desserts to choose from but of course, we went with Baklava what we’re there for in the first place. Layers after layers of thin & crispy pie-like dessert stuffed and topped with pistachios soaked in honey. Oh man, so sweet, so nutty, so good!
SANGAK
Then, bf read online that people go there for their Sangak. First time trying this and it’s quite interesting… A giant piece of bread covered with white sesame seeds hung on the wall… just like that. The-size-of-my-body bread for $4.75. I was expecting it to be a bit dry because of how it’s hung. Nope,… Super soft and flavorful surprisingly. This can feed a family for a meal or so.
Our first time and for sure not the last. All the desserts/pastries look interesting and exotic to us (an Asian and an American). We will be back for more!!!
