It's aunty birthday and there's no other better way to celebrate than a good bunch of good food!
My family like going on a trip with load tons of ingredients to cook while we're staying in a vacation home. One of the reason is that we are 20+ people every time so eat out can be quite expensive. Main reason is that, my aunts cook good and almost better than going to eat at restaurants, like, honestly.
This time we went to Huahin, a beach city in Prachuabkhirikhun. We rented a place on AirBnb just a min walk to the beach so that was pretty neat. We also wouldn't have felt like we're in beach town if we hadn't stuffed ourselves with seafood so on my aunt's birthday, we just go crazy on that (Thai style of course!).
My most favorite out of the whole meal was this Spicy salad Giant catfish / Giant sea catfish / Giant salmon catfish roes. The roe are white and not exactly transparent. A good variety of veggies like, tomatoes (or that's a fruit #lol), onions, Celery, lots of chili, lime, fish sauce and a bit of sugar.. All flavors combined and that's why it's so guc!
Steamed Prawns with Vermicelli. This one is kids' all time favorite since it's not spicy seriously yummy. Like its name, the vermicelli got stirred with some seasoning, prawn and all cooked in a (clay)pot (normally). Good by itself or with rice.
Ant eggs are not exactly seafood but it's rare and we happened to find one good looking bag of it while shopping in a local market. My step mom got a bag to make an ant egg omelette with. Every time you bite one, it would kind of spread in your mouth. Almost buttery but not really. So hard to explain and I don't think it's for everyone either. I personally like it a lot both in this dish and other ones like ant egg soup? Yum!
Fish sauce marinaded raw shrimps is sooooo good and so simple to make. Out of all this I think I would make this one real good if I have a chance too. It's basically just raw shrimp marinaded in fish sauce, lime juice and that's pretty much how it's cooked. Top with a good amount of sliced garlic, bittermelon, and chopped chili.
A few other ones are just basic same-o same-o Tom yum soup and steamed crabs that by the way were yummy because, again, my aunts cooked them!
Once the dinner is done, here comes the cake! I picked a really cute one out for my aunt. A smile emoji with a rainbow marble cake from the inside. Both to reflect her overload happiness at this age (59) and wish her a load tons of happiness as well.
It was a really great night with good food and the people I love most in my life. <3
