1️⃣ Our bodies require nourishment to thrive and we enjoy the taste of food. Keeping that in mind, if you had to choose just one food to eat for the rest of your life, what food would that be and why?
That is a fun one. The answer was so clear to me, I will choose bread! Bread bread! Everyday for the rest of my life (if have to make a choice)
Bread is super tasty and comforting to me, it is also giving so much energy and fill my belly for a long time. I always loved bread, and growing up in Isreal we used to make a sweet bread every week on Friday, this bread is calld Challa, and it is a very simple to make, and delicious bread. The bread was made to celebrate the end of the week and to welcome the day of rest- Shabbat (Saturday). I still love to make this bread often. This is a rich bread, with white flour and yeast, eggs, oil, salt and sugar. The small you get from baking it is so heartwarming.
Here is a Challa bread I made a few weeks ago!
As an adult, I emigrated to Portugal with my husband and son, to live in the countryside, close to nature, in the church for a more slow pace and simple life.
Living here is wonderful, but the Portuguese don't have a lot of bread options. Mostly white bread in different shapes. Which is very tasty, but not very high in nutrition value.
I am very blessed to have parents-in-laws that are very close to us. They are coming to visit us every few months, and my father-in-law is a great backer. He start a sourdough startr here, and he inspired me to try my hand at baking as well. When they left back to Isreal he left my his startr and instructions, and my journey began.
Shortly after the pandemic hit, and we all got into lockdown, I got into the wave of sourdough baking- and full in love. Deep love. Now I make all the bread for our family needs, every week I will prepar bread, learn all the time, improve my skill and accept the falls, which are part of every learning curve. And of course, enjoy the taste of fresh, homemade sourdough bread.
I whis you that nutritious and tasty good will always be in your homes. Much love!
