The Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coin in 2024 is perhaps among the most significant today among stackers and coin enthusiasts. Why so? The Royal Canadian Mint carried on with its 2023 bullion series featuring Elizabeth II's image on the obverse even after she passed away in September 2022.
As her son, Charles III, takes the obverse spot on Canadian coins in 2024, this will be the first release in the program's history featuring a monarch other than Elizabeth II.
2024 Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coin (BU)
One British coining custom that applies to Canadian coins is the change in orientation from one monarch to the next. The bust of Charles III is featured on the obverse side of the 2024 Canadian Silver Maple Leaf Coin. Unlike her late mother's right-profile picture, the new British monarch is depicted here in left-profile relief.
Coin Highlights:

The original sugar maple leaf was designed by Walter Ott for the Gold Maple Leaf. It is what is shown on the reverse side of the 2024 Silver Maple Leaf Coin. Also, it features a laser-engraved maple leaf privy at the bottom of the field. Radial lines run throughout the backdrop field.
I've always wondered about the maple leaf design. Numista had a short background on him. Walter Ott was an Austrian master engraver, artist, and designer who immigrated to Canada in 1952. He was born in Winkl, Thörlbachtal, on June 20, 1920, and passed away on November 9, 2020, in Collingwood, Ontario. He began working in the Royal Ottawa Mint's engraving department in 1964 and held the positions of Chief Engraver and Art Director from 1977 until his retirement in 1985. He developed and modeled the Canadian bullion maple leaf, of which he was most proud, out of all the more than one thousand coins and medals he produced.
Maple Leaf are outstanding bullion coins for any stacker, next to the American Silver Eagles and Silver Britannia. These are the bullion coins I am more than happy to stack!!!
