I honestly grew up that grapes, the fruits, are only for rich kids. Not everyone could afford those circle fruits with the color of ripening red in my boyhood. I also thought grapes would only be grown in cold regions, like apples. But not today; agriculture in the Philippines is silently evolving, and innovative scientists are discovering, resulting in the Philippines as a tropical fruits country.

Is the question about the grapes in the Philippines? Yes, we have some. But not native to us; those varieties are from other countries; they are introduced and acclimatized for research under the developments and breedings.
The Great Grape...
In the past, we thought that grapes wouldn't strive for the Philippine environment. The Philippines only has two seasons, the 'wet and dry' not like others who have for seasons. But digging different is that; grapes will bloom in an environment that humid, but again the challenge is that the climate in the Philippines still not that favorable.
That's why acclimatization happens in plants, but the negative is that. After the introduction of new species, it's not the same as the parent. So if you were curious about the taste difference? Yes, still the exported product is sweetest than the introduced varieties. But this won't be the last or ending; plant breeders are still looking for the best suits varieties.
Three varieties could be planted to Philippine soil: the red cardinal, Catawba, and Brazilian medium. The red cardinal variety or the giant red color, Catawba or the grape mixed the shade of green and reddish. And the popular one is the Brazillian medium which is in the picture, the sour green grape.(Source)
The Brazillian Medium.
The Brazillian Medium.
In the backyard, the farming of grapes became popularized in early 2010. But the Green variety has become the most popular for it strives and suits the pH level of native soil. The best thing about this variety is its drought and heat tolerance. Also, in backyard cultivation, they use the grapevine as a plant cover.
Could you believe that this vine is only from one rootstock? They grew and colonized the iron fence. One nature of the Brazillian medium is endlessly increasing. Some people think it's good as more fruits develop from its nodes; I also explained that it must be regular trims. My neighborhood knew about my passion for agriculture, and also they asked for some advice on their plants.
If you were planning to clone such a plant, I suggest cutting the node at this size; the older the age of stem, the higher chances of cuttings survival.
It also has some small developing fruits now, as this variety wanted the arid climate, all year from January to December this fruits will bear, yet not so famous for its green and sour taste. Most of the kids don't like this variety.
Why don't we plant such other sweet varieties?
I lived in the part of Luzon in Cagayan, soil for farming is not favorable for other crops, and the acidity of the earth is severe as the older farmers don't know about the consequences of using chemicals too much. Also, the climate of Cagayan is different from other sides, like Baguio and Mountain Province.
Still, the Philippines is importing grapes because of the challenge we face under climatic conditions. Still, soon enough, as more plant breeders do the research soon, also the Philippines could taste the sweetest variety grown in our homeland.
