Bringing son to an eatery I used to always eat at when I was a university student who have to be thrifty in spending.
What a place I have been missing! It is not open all the time so I felt so lucky to see it open today.
Snow fungus dessert
Son's fried rice. Obviously he could not finish.
Just look at the portion of food given. This was only RM8!
The fried food selection.
Still feel there are too many desserts for me to choose from.
Still the same variety of food that I know from 10 years ago.
Met my old housemate so unexpectedly!!
My son also wanted to join me to take photos together hahaha.
Do you have a place that you always frequent at a period of life and then you go back to it just suddenly some day like after 10 years?
I have many and Kopitiam Desa is one of them!
Kopitiam Desa
This shop is more known as "tong shui po" to me as this was what I called it in my university days when I still rented a place to stay with some friends and housemates, some of whom I still keep in touch till this very day.
Kopitiam means a coffee shop in our local slang and desa is because this street it is situated is named Desa Setapak. Back then, I really really liked this shop because the food and desserts were really delicious and then the price was affordable for students like us. I could get a whole meal within RM5 back then.
It was one of the places we frequently packed our meals from even for church events and occasions where children were having a feast.
Introducing it to my son
I had just one hour and was finding a place to quickly to eat before sending the son to another class for his Chinese enrichment. I saw that this shop was opened and among all days, I found a parking today near it! Mind you, this is a very very congested street that find car parks can be as difficult as solving a crime hahaha.
Anyway, I remember they have fried rice so I thought it would be good for the son to eat fast. We got a seat and I went ahead to order some familiar food I used to have too.
Food and Beverages Here
They have many varieties of fried noodles, fried rice, fried vermicelli and even fried lo shu fun (rice noodles mimicking rats tails haha). All these are my familiar food that I was reminiscing from my older days. There were also fried radish cake, fried chicken, sweet and sour pork chop, fried vegetarian food made of flour. The fried vegetarian food has got to be my ultimate favorite as it still taste the same as how I remember it. It is crispy and made of flour. It made you feel like you are eating meat but actually it is not.
There are also good choices of dessert like red bean, snow fungus with egg, mung bean and bubur cha cha (sweet potatoes dessert in coconut milk). Among all, my favorite from my old days has got to be its sago honeydew. I thought they were not selling anymore.
Suddenly, I met someone unexpectedly.
I was looking at a guy looking so familiar and I turned behind to see my housemate from my university days eating at a table behind me. This was so unexpected because she has moved out from this area to another place maybe 2 hour drive away from here. I seldom dine out with my son as it is just too rush for that but I chose to come to this shop today. What a crazy coincidence!!!!
We caught up a bit and took photos so I can show my other old housemates. Hahah. This was so Candid!
The shop owner kept coming over to look at my son and kept telling me he looks so handsome hahahahah. It was a bit amusing too.
