I shall finish up all the food exploration I had during my Sibu trip. It was the 8th day, and this time, I was the one suggested to go to one Kopitiam called Ah Ching Kopitiam. I had a fond memory of it due to its super delicious grilled fish. Everyone agreed to go there and here we were.
Ah Ching Kopitiam
Address: Jalan Pahlawan 7, Pekan Sibu, 96000 Sibu, Sarawak.
Naturally, I love street food or small coffee shops food. Mainly because of the variety. And cheap price. Ah Ching Kopitiam is super spacious, taking up two shoplots and in the centre is the aisle which was renovated into sheltered area for the restaurant too.
Once we found a table for us, I immediately walked to one of the stalls there with my husband. It was my favourite stall — the stall which sells most food and almost look like the street food I had at Thailand and Taiwan, yes, the combination of both countries. Cool right.
It has all things stir fry, especially seafood like prawns, calamari, clams, bamboo clams, fish and stingray.
We ordered one grilled fish topped with sambal aka our Malaysia chilli paste, we chose large size so that everyone got to eat. The grilled fish was perfectly grilled, soft and fresh meat, topped with appetizing sambal chillie loved by everybody. Every mouthful was very satisfying.
From the same shop, husband also chose a few marinated skewed meat to be grilled as well. He chose the marinated pork belly, marinated pork slices, liver and gizzard, and squid. Wow. We super love each of them. The grilled pork belly especially tasted like the Taiwan mixed with some Korean spices. The squid tasted like the grilled seafood we had at Thailand long time ago, spicy and full of kick. A great choice by my husband.
My parents knew we all love chicken feet except my eldest son, so they ordered for us a plate of soy sauce stewed chicken feet. Super soft chicken feet, cooked for hours and the bones broke so easily. My youngest son loved it soooo much. The soy sauce was very delicious too.
My eldest son, as usual ordered his favourite carbonara pasta. Nothing special about this except it was my eldest son's favourite food.
For whatever reason, I really felt like eating some pork liver, probably my body is lacking in iron? So I listened to my body and ordered a bowl of pork liver soup with wine. Wow, I loved loved loved it so much. I wondered how they cooked the pork liver till super soft yet it was not undercooked. The soup was mouth-watering, the addition of rice wine indeed calmed my body.
Final thought
If I stay at Sibu, I would probably come here very often. They have so many other stalls that we have yet to try. For example, stalls selling porridge, burgers, Sibu Kampua, fried finger snacks and dimsum. The best thing about dining here was everything we ordered was reasonably priced. If you ever visit Sibu, please explore the food. And food. And food. 😊
