A great 'roti telur jantan' with delicious curry sauces is always our great choice for breakfast wherever we are at mamak.
Maggi Goreng is another meal irresistible by young and old. Wok-hey fried ramen. Yums!
A sip of 'teh tarik' is a must for most Malaysians who are not 'allergic' to caffeine. Slurp!
A pile of crispy yummy fried chicken. I wish you can smell it from here. Really....delicious juicy fried chicken.
I was enjoying watching him putting the marinated chicken to fry one by one. I salute him standing under hot sun and beside hot wok.
A variety of meat dishes for you to choose from for your rice. They had mutton curry, beef curry, chicken curry, chicken kurma, etc.
Fried fish, turmeric cabbage and steamed ladies fingers here. Other vegetables were still being cooked.

Since we were back from Sibu, I still had no time to go for groceries shopping. There was not no bread and eggs left. Only cheese. Impromptu decision, the boys said, "Let's go mamak!!!"
It had been awhile we went out for breakfast. Usually, we settled our breakfast at home to save time and to save cost too. However, we had special breakfast that day!
Restoran Barakath Noor
This is a 'mamak' I used to frequent last time but somehow I forgot about it after few years of pandemic. It is open-air concept, and this mamak has inside and outside section. Quite spacious to me and well ventilated.
'Mamak' is basically a restaurant owned by Indian Muslim and sells Indian Muslim food. The food ranges from rice to noodles to 'roti', to 'tosai' and 'naan'. For breakfast, we usually chose 'roti'.
Roti Telur Jantan
I grew up eating 'roti telur' very often. 'Roti telur' is in Malay language, it simply means egg bread in direct translation. However, this is unlike the bread we used for morning sandwich or peanut butter jelly. It is Indian flat bread, cooked by using a dough made with flour and ghee, being tossed and twirled in the air, to give some fluffiness and then being flattenes, then pan fried to give that perfect crispness. We ordered 'telur jantan', telur is egg, jantan is male, meaning two eggs, I supposed they got the naming from male's two important assets? 🤪 We loved our roti more packed with egg, so roti telur jantan was the best option. It usually came with three dipping sauces which were fish curry, dhal curry, and chilli sambal. Super duper delicious. Satisfying.
Maggi Goreng with Sunny Side Egg
My eldest son was longing for a good Maggi goreng, so I ordered for him large Maggi Goreng with added fried egg on top. Maggi is our local brand of ramen, so maggi goreng is wok-frying the maggi ramen with added vegetables and some meat and eggs, the powder from the ramen packet was used for the seasoning too. This plate of maggi goreng did not look appetizing but my son said it was one of the best. I shall try it the next round we come here.
Teh Tarik
What is mamak if we don't order a cup or warm 'teh tarik'? I never failed to order this for myself whenever we came to mamak. Teh means tea. Tarik means pull. Yes, they really pull the milk tea by using two stainless steel mug, from one to another. And I am not good in describing that sort of action, so you may find in YouTube, 'how to make teh tarik'. 😊
Rice, Cabbage and Fried Chicken
This mamak is famous for its delicious fried chicken too. We could smell the aroma of the fried chicken and seriously could not resist it. Therefore, I went and packed 3 chicken drumsticks, a pack of cabbage cooked in mustard seeds and turmeric powder and plain rice, for our lunch. I also added one piece of chicken kurma after staring at it for a long time. All these were packed and I did not get to take photo of them, as later on during lunch time, I was kind of in a rush, preparing to go for tutoring job soon.
I was happy to get a good deal at this mamak. Altogether, I paid only RM40 for 2 roti telur jantan, one Maggi goreng large with added egg, a cup of teh tarik, 3 pieces of fried chicken, one pack of cabbage, one rice and one chicken kurma. All these for breakfast and lunch. The boys said we should visit this mamak once a month. Haha!
