I really don't want to over use the word 'Hidden gems' so much but here we go again, another hidden gem in Chiang Mai that I found it's worth visiting at least once when you visit the city! Healthy food, chill vibes, another good way to support a local business.
One day, our local friend who live here suggested we go for lunch and she specified the place, 'Pun Pun market', cute name! but what's so good about it?
Pun Pun market (ตลาดพันพรรณ)
First of all, love the name! I don't even know how to pronounce it in Thai but in English, it sounds cute! First impression, it's a really simple set up with an open air area with a few wooden tables and seats. A few shops selling food and one shop selling handmade food ingredients.
Vegetarian (+ fish) food at Pun Pun market
The food here is mostly vegetarian but there's still fish option. Such a wide variety of dishes too from Thai food, northern Thai, Isaan food or some wraps, salads, and even smoothie bowls! Crazy good selections and seems so healthy as well.
It's a few of us who went there so we got a chance to try quite a good number of dishes from Salad, stir fry basil with mushroom on rice (I got this one!), vegetarian wraps, omelette, and even pancakes with fruits! I also got a complimentary hibiscus juice from just checking in on social media. That was refreshing.
I'm not exaggerating here but all the food we ordered were so colorful and pretty presentation with butterfly peas decorated and all. Almost (if not is) the most colorful dishes I have ever ordered (seriously!)
Looks good! Taste great! It's not just the look but it actually delicious! Most importantly, really healthy with all the fresh ingredients as well!
I love how they also give the option of fish for those who are not actually a vegan or a vegetarian.
The prices are also really reasonable. The basic one like omelette goes from 30THB or $1 then $2, and about $4-5 at most.
