We pretty much get consumed by the notion that we need to feel something before we can embark on that activity we claim we wanted to do. Hoping for some spark in our brain that tells us it is time for us to kick-start the activity we have been postponing for a long time. We say we are not ready or the universe has not sent us a sign yet, but that says it is go time. Well, that is okay, but when you start asking the right question, what if that sign never comes? What if we never get the feeling to do what we said we would do?
It is only human when these things happen to us, and trust me, there are so many reasons out there not to do something compared to the reasons to do it. You finally decide you will grab a book to read, but unfortunately for you, that is when your phone gets the notification buzz sound. I have to admit that I have a frequent customer for this incident. When I decide to read a chessbook for a couple of hours, that is when my phone vibrates, and guess what is on the screen, a notification from TikTok telling me that somebody I recently interacted with in their video just made a post.
Well, I am here to tell you it is alright that you get cut up with this occurrence, or better still, distraction. The world is busy, and it is not your fault that it is. You simply have to craft the time for what you said you will do. Nobody ever waits until it is the right time, and I am more than certain that if people did, there would not be many things built or invented in this world. Try to look beyond the scope and understand that there is never a better time to do anything than just doing it. Be intentional about it, no matter how small it may be. When I discovered that notifications from my phone were a huge hindrance to my study time for chess. Immediately, I employed the use of DND (Do Not Disturb). Whenever it is time for 2 hours, I said I would spend on studying chess, I place my phone on DND, and until I have exhausted the 2 hours designated, the phone does not leave DND.
Here is the thing: it will be difficult at first, and for me, it felt like a withdrawal, since I am used to my phone being with me all the time. But the silver lining lies in the fact that it worked. I began to realize that things I thought were so important could actually wait. The world will continue no matter what. What do you think cannot wait will actually wait, and you will be shocked. This is why I say there is no need to spend your time waiting to feel the spark and get ready. Honestly, is anybody ever ready?
We all think we are prepared for what can happen until it happens, and you are left worrying is this what it looks like. So why wait? Just start and keep going; nobody can predict what can happen next, so why spend your time waiting to feel right? Just do it, as Nike would say.
