Hello everyone! Today I am going to share how we made some steamed sweet potatoes for breakfast. Sweet potatoes have many health benefits. They are highly nutritious to our body including our gut and eye health. There are many types of sweet potatoes. However I will be only sharing about two types of sweet potatoes today.
These are the sweet potatoes. The purple ones are Japanese sweet potatoes while the brownish orange ones are jewel sweet potatoes. The Japanese sweet potatoes are literally sweet in taste and they are heavy and starchy as well while the jewel potatoes are not as sweet and they are more of an all-purpose sweet potatoes.
First of all, just wash them to remove any traces of soil or dirt. Then cut them into little pieces so it is easier to eat.
This is the steamer that we use here. I have seen some in different shapes but work in the similar way. Just place the sweet potatoes in it with the stove turned on.
When it starts heating up, cover it with a lid so that the steam produced can be captured inside.
After around ten minutes, the colour looks changed into warmer and brighter tones. This means that the steaming is halfway done.
At this point, remove the lid off and use a fork to turn the potatoes around. That way, they will be steamed more evenly. Then cover them with the lid again and let them to be steamed for another 5 to 10 minutes.
Check them again and feel the potatoes with a fork to know if they have softened. If they are soft, then turn the heat off.
Cover them with a lid again to let them be in the residual steam for a final 5 minutes (standing time) before serving.
These are the sweet potatoes after being steamed. The Japanese sweet potatoes have yellow flesh while the jewel sweet potatoes have orange flesh. They may look small but they are very filling as they have a lot of starch (carbohydrate) in them especially the purple coloured potatoes. These three would have been adequate for me but my mother added another purple one and I managed to finish it and ended up with a full tummy in the morning.
Thank you for dropping by and have a nice day ahead! ♥♥♥
