After the
first article on the topic of orbs a few days ago, here is the second part. Today I want to show you some other variations of the orb, like the Broken Orb in the first picture. Here, the light source is switched on and off during the rotation. I had mounted a Convoy S2+ with a cable remote switch on the pole. In the second step, I painted the white light traces into the Broken Orb freehand with an acrylic blade. Finally, I illuminated the room with the purple Convoy S2+ and a warm white Emisar D4V2. It takes some practice and above all concentration to switch the light on the Orb on and off at the right places. This picture is the fourth attempt.

ersten Beitrag zum Thema Orbs vor einigen folgt hier nun der zweite Teil. Heute will ich euch einige andere Varianten des Orbs zeigen, wie den Broken Orb im ersten Bild. Hierbei wird während der Drehung die Lichtquelle ein- und ausgeschaltet. Ich hatte eine Convoy S2+ mit einem Kabel-Fernschalter am Stab montiert. Im zweiten Schritt hatte ich dann freihand mit einem Acryl Blade die weißen Lichtspuren in den Broken Orb gemalt. Zum Schluss habe ich dann mit der lila Convoy S2+ und einer warmweißen Emisar D4V2 den Raum ausgeleuchtet. Es erfordert einige Übung und vor Allem Konzentration um das Licht am Orb an den richtigen Stellen ein- und auszuschalten. Dieses Bild ist der vierte Versuch.

I painted this orb freehand, without a stick or wire. I had prepared three different tools. Two acrylic blades and one tool with black optic fibres. One after the other, I painted the light traces into the picture with the three tools. The difficulty was to stand in exactly the same position after each change of tool. My shoulder joint served as a fixed pivot point. All movements were carried out exclusively with the arm, without me moving in any other way.
Diesen Orb habe ich freihand gemalt, ohne Stab oder Kabel. Ich hatte drei verschiedene Tools vorbereitet. Zwei Acryl Blades und ein Tool mit schwarzen Glasfasern. Nacheinander habe ich dann mit den drei Tools die Lichtspuren ins Bild gemalt. Die Schwierigkeit bestand darin nach jedem Wechsel des Tools wieder an exakt der gleichen Position zu stehen. Als fester Drehpunkt diente hier mein Schultergelenk. Alle Bewegungen wurden auschließlcih mit dem Arm ausgeführt, ohne dass ich mich ansonsten bewegt habe.

For the third picture of the night, I had mounted a small cordless screwdriver on a pole with a Convoy S2+ in green. While I was turning the Orb, the torch was turning in circles. This created these twisted light trails. This is not so easy to realise because the weight of the whole construction is quite big. I'll have to look around for a light, small motor soon.
Für das dritte Bild der Nacht hatte ich an einem Stab einen kleinen Akkuschrauber mit einer Convoy S2+ in grün montiert. Während ich den Orb drehte, drehte sich die Taschenlampe im Kreis. Dadurch entstanden diese gedrehte Lichtspuren. Das ist nicht ganz so einfach umzusetzen weil das Gewicht der gesamten Konstruktion recht groß ist. Ich muss mich demnächst mal nach einem leichten, kleinen Motor umsehen.
WHAT IS LIGHT PAINTING?
Light painting is a unique form of art. The artist illuminates the scene with diverse light sources and paints light traces into the picture with various light tools. In addition, we use various other techniques, such as camera rotation or other movements of the camera during the exposure. The creative possibilities are almost unlimited.
All our pictures were taken during one single exposure. Apart from denoising, sharpening, cutting and possibly adjusting the white balance, our pictures are not processed on the computer.
