As you may or may not know, we moved to a new town just a little while ago, maybe 8 months or so. One of the things that we like about the town we live in now is how walkable it is.
Its really a fairly large city that is right next, and sort of attached, to a much larger city. But our section is small enough that we can walk over to the little downtown area when take our dog for his daily stroll. It only takes about 20 minutes or so to get down there, and that is pretty reasonable for us. It's a nice walk as well because it's a large loop that is part way through residential homes and part way through a woodsy walking path.
A big incentive to make the journey is that there are two different ice cream parlors there as well. We don't always walk downtown, but when we do, you know that we always get ice cream. If we needed to justify it (which we don't) we could say that we are walking off the calories we consume from our delicious treat. Really, we don't care about that though.
Anyway, I had this idea to take a photo of each cone that we got throughout the spring, summer, and fall, though there were a fair amount of times that I had forgotten. Nonetheless I still built up quite the collection over that time period.
As you can see from many of the photos I also forgot to take pictures right away when getting our cones. Most times I only remembered to do so after I had already eaten some. It alway tends to be a little hectic when exiting the shop with the melting ice cream cone in one hand and a dog leash in the other and no additional hand for a camera phone. Nonetheless I still somehow managed most times.
One of the places actually gave our dog a small scoop of vanilla ice cream to eat himself one day. They put in a small cup for him to have on his own. We originally thought that it was a nice gesture by them but then came to realize that they had actually charged us an additional 0.30 cents for it. So it was more of an up-sell than it was kindness I guess. The dog was pretty happy that day as you can imagine, so I suppose that was the important thing.
I often get the same flavors of ice cream, "Bordeaux Cherry" and "chocolate...something or-other." My wife usually goes into the store to buy them while I wait outside with our dog so I don't know the exact name of the chocolate.
Here is a philosophical question for you:
Should the chocolate flavor go on top of the cherry or visa versa? What do you think?
Sometimes I change up the flavor combo and get Moosetracks...
...Or cookie dough.
This walk brings us through a cemetary right before the woodsy path that I mentioned.
I often try and take a photo of my ice cream there, for the spooky factor. That is if I can make it there quick enough, before the ice cream melts or I eat too much of it.
And next is the woodsy path. It's a nice length of walk just a little off the beaten trail.
The last two photos were taken on different walks in different cities. I've included them here for obvious reasons. It's because they are about ice cream if you hadn't guessed.
The last photo was from Ottawa, Canada's capital city.
Okay so I had really high hopes of this idea of me talking about walking to get ice cream but im fearing that it has actually turned into a bit of a shit post. But I'll let you be the judge of that. Feel free to let me know your thoughts in the comments.
