Greetings all!
I hope your week had been far more chill than mine has been. Finally starting to wrap up the book that I have been stuck with for over 6 weeks because the client cannot make up their mind. The other book has been extended by 10,000 words and I spend more time researching that one than writing at this point. However, it's super fascinating and I am learning a lot!
left me in quite a pickle with his update and I was forced to come up with something a little interesting to prevent overshadowing his major fight he wrote. Please do go and read that before you start on this update! It was a great update!
Magna felt helpless as she sat with her brother in her arms. His unconscious just brought back all the horror she had had to endure all those months ago. She didn’t know what to say, didn’t know what to do. She even growled at Derric when he changed back into a human to hold her arm.
Sebastian pulled the prince from Magna and inclined his head to the opening of the cave. Derric understood his meaning immediately and disappeared. The King then looked to Trix and raised his arm to show the bangle. The skull helm nodded once before melting into the shadows at Magna’s feet and disappearing.
“What is happening?” demanded Anna.
“I can’t be sure, but I sent Trix to figure that out.”
“How!” demanded Magna as tears streamed down her face. “You don’t even know what is wrong with him.”
Sebastian was on the verge of telling Magna that this was the reason females shouldn’t be in power, but he caught the feral look on her face. He knew that feral look, if he didn’t calm down there would be a problem between the two of them.
“Is he breathing?” asked the King.
“Yes.”
“Then he is alive.” Exclaimed Anna.
She immediately pulled a blanket free from their gear and threw it over Magna and her twin before sitting next to them and pulling them tightly into an embrace. Sebastian felt the feral anger rise for a second and then felt relief.
That was how Mortis found the trio as he was led by Derric. The revenant viewed the scene before him before he slowly looked up at Sebastian who was resting his back against the cave wall.
“What happened?”
“I’m waiting to find out.”
Trix wasn’t sure where she was for a moment. The world was black, and it felt as if she was being buffeted by wind from all directions. Sebastian had wanted her to follow the boy and with their unique connection, they had hope that she could. However, she could see nothing, and there was a screaming in her ears that was unearthly.
She felt heat and pressure, but that wasn’t all. She was well away that she was being observed, but from where she couldn’t judge.
A hunger? Here in my domain?*
The voice penetrated her soul and she almost felt like she wanted to vomit.
I see. You are linked. Now this is a problem.
All around Trix, as if a fire had been lit, multiple purple eyes opened to view her. She couldn’t help but feel the terror she hadn’t felt in many years.
Oh Adiran, you sought to free the boy. How naïve, how ingenious. So simple, yet so complex. You know I can’t take a blended soul.
The eyes swirled around her, and Trix was forced to close her eyes to prevent her growing nausea from ending in a vomiting spell.
Did you sacrifice your sister to achieve this? You must of. Why do you always do this?
The voice was cold, intelligent, and so monotonous that Trix felt that it couldn’t be the voice of a mortal.
I can wait a few more millennia to claim the last part I need. You all turn to me in the end, and I already feel the boy being one step within my realm. You have only bought him some time, nothing more. Ah, little Hunger, you seek to break your curse? It will be no easy feat, but you have part of Adiran with you. You will succeed, but only if you stop interfering!
The last sentence tore through Trix’s skull, and she was blasted back from where she was. She was flung from the shadows and slammed against the cave wall. All the wind was knocked from her and as her helm made contact with the wall bright stars flashed before her eyes. As she landed on her knees, she ripped the helm free to vomit. She didn’t know what she was vomiting, but it tasted vile.
As soon as she was done, Adrian took a deep breath and sat upright in the arms of Magna and Anna. He was pale, and sweat shone on his face, but he was at least conscious. He quickly detangled himself from the arms and rushed to his feet.
“We need to run! Now!” he then bolted from the cave.
No one queried his order. They grabbed what was necessary and bolted to their horses. They quickly saddled up and rode in the direction Adrian pointed. Behind them, in the distance, the sky was an angry purple, and the bolts of lightning were various colours that weren’t natural. No one got a chance to ask any questions but instead steered their horses after Adrian, who was bent flat against his horse’s back.
The mad ride in the dark felt like hours, and soon the sun was bridging the horizon. At this point, Trix had recovered enough to catch up to Adrian’s horse. She rode its shadow until she was able to exert her command of its shadow. The horse eventually slowed to a trot. Adrian sat bolt up as Trix appeared next to him to take the reins away from him and stop his horse.
“I’m scared too.” She whispered. “But they need to know what is going on.”
“We are nothing to what is coming after me.” He whispered. “We need to get away…”
“It isn’t after you now. You don’t need to be concerned about it right now. Your uncle gave us the head start we needed, but now you are exhausted, and we have to rest. Not everyone is a Hunger or undead, people need to rest.”
“Adrian! What the hell!” demanded Magna as she pulled up next to him. “You can’t just leave us like that!”
“Magna, Adiran, Adrian, me, we are what the Cold One wants. Our souls are forfeit to it.”
Magna reached for her brother and gripped the front of his shirt, cutting off anything he was going to say further.
“Not while I live.” She growled in his face. “I don’t care was Adiran did, but you never traded your soul. I will keep you safe, even if I have to invoke him.”
She then paused, “Hold on…Adrian? As in not you Adrian?”
“We need rest, and we need shelter.” Said Trix as she pointed off toward their left.
Another storm front was billowing, and already the wind was bringing wetness in the air. Magna released her brother and hissed, “We will discuss this, but first, shelter and food. I am starving.”
The twins rode off as Sebastian pulled up to Trix. They shared a look and then sighed. They too were hungry.
