You may have been aware this week of the imposing heat wave that hit much of the globe, especially one of the most affected countries was Argentina.
The heat exceeded 45 degrees Celsius making the days an ordeal in the cities.
Taking advantage of the fact that we are visiting my parents' house in Catamarca and having mountains with rivers a few kilometers away, we decided to escape the heat.
Bus in the way.
We got on a bus and started the trip. My favorite place here is El Rodeo, a tourist village located 35 km away at 1296 meters above sea level where, given the characteristics of its geographical location, the temperature drops between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius from the city during the day and, sometimes, even more at night.
We knew of a camping site a few kilometers past this town, so we headed there.

Mi lugar favorito es El Rodeo, una villa turística ubicada a 35 kilómetros y a 1296 metros sobre el nivel del mar donde, dadas las características de su ubicación geográfica, la temperatura baja entre 10 y 15 grados centígrados con respecto a la ciudad durante el día y, a veces, aún más durante la noche. Sabíamos de un camping a pocos kilómetros de este pueblo, así que nos dirigimos allí. |

Upon arrival, the first impression was a bit disappointing, as the heat was still felt and there was no river nearby, only a shy stream with brown water and more mosquitoes than water current where Nico was encouraged to get his feet wet.
Then I cooked, remember the GRILLED VEGAN SAUSAGES I shared in the previous post? This time on bread, the classic choripan. Argentinian.
The first day we were content with being outdoors, we enjoyed the scenery and the local animals.
With the sunset came relief accompanied by a drop in temperature, and at night we could sleep comfortably. The great advantage of the campsite was how little crowded it was and how huge the site was distributed in large terraces covered with shade.

El primer día nos conformamos con estar al aire libre, disfrutamos del paisaje y de los animales del lugar. Con la puesta de sol llegó el alivio acompañado de una bajada de temperatura, y por la noche pudimos dormir cómodamente. La gran ventaja del camping era lo poco concurrido que estaba y lo enorme que era el sitio distribuido en grandes terrazas cubiertas de sombra. |

Llamas are typical of the Andean region of the Puna, in this case they were rescued from illegal equila corrals and adapted to the Andean foothills.
The next day, after checking the map exactly, we noticed that El Rodeo was 4km away from the campsite. Something that made our location unfavorable was that there is no frequent transportation between the campsite and El Rodeo or Las Juntas (the next town 15km away). We decided that 4 km could be walked despite the heat if the reward was a nice river with cool, clear water, so we set off on the excursion and taking advantage of the tourist movement in the area we hitchhiked and after a kilometer a man in his truck picked us up and dropped us off a few blocks from the entrance to the river.
We were looking for tranquility and fresh water so we walked along the path that borders the Los Nogales River until we found a beautiful natural pool where we refreshed ourselves throughout the afternoon and where we decided to return the next day to spend the day drinking some MATE dy the river.
| ESP | Al día siguiente, tras comprobar el mapa con exactitud, nos dimos cuenta de que El Rodeo estaba a 4 km del camping. Algo que desfavorecía nuestra ubicación era que no hay transporte frecuente entre el camping y El Rodeo o Las Juntas (el siguiente pueblo a 15km). Decidimos que 4 km podían ser caminados a pesar del calor si la recompensa era un lindo río con agua fresca y clara, así que emprendimos la excursión y aprovechando el movimiento turístico de la zona hicimos dedo y luego de un kilómetro un hombre en su camioneta nos recogió y nos dejó a pocas cuadras de la entrada al río. Buscábamos tranquilidad y agua fresca así que caminamos por el sendero que bordea el río Los Nogales hasta encontrar una hermosa pileta natural donde nos refrescamos durante toda la tarde y a la que decidimos volver al día siguiente a tomar MATE en el río. |

We stayed one more day and this time we knew that there was a shuttle coming back from Las Juntas in the late afternoon, so we hitchhiked again with the fortune that the first car stopped and took us to the river.
We walked about 200 meters along the edge and came across huge pools and natural slides. Luckily we arrived early and were able to enjoy a few hours until people started arriving in large groups to fill every possible surface to rest, so we waited until the worst heat had passed and returned in time to catch the bus back.
| ESP | Nos quedamos un día más y esta vez sabíamos que había una lanzadera que volvía de Las Juntas a última hora de la tarde, así que volvimos a hacer autostop con la fortuna de que el primer coche paró y nos llevó hasta el río. Caminamos unos 200 metros por la orilla y nos encontramos con enormes pozas y toboganes naturales. Por suerte llegamos pronto y pudimos disfrutar de unas horas hasta que la gente empezó a llegar en grandes grupos para llenar todas las superficies posibles para descansar, así que esperamos a que pasara lo peor del calor y volvimos a tiempo para coger el autobús de vuelta. |

We finally felt we were able to make the most of the weekend in the best way possible.
The return to the city coincided with the end of the heat wave. At sunset the long awaited rain and cool air arrived.
