Another day (last week) fishing. No luck this time, but it was nice to spend the time outside, testing my new camera. First, we spent some time on the southern shore of Chequamegon Water Flowage. (Pronounced "shuh-WAH-me-non".)
Here is a common garter snake who was also enjoying the warm, sunny weather. (Here's a guide to the snakes of Wisconsin.) Growing up on the West Coast, I was familiar with the redder variety of garter snake.
We saw, at least, four of these pretty snakes, all basking on the wooden steps or the rocks next to them.
This is sure a beautiful place!
A bald eagle flew over the area... Another good opportunity to test the camera. I need to explore some of the settings, I think, but it's not too bad.
Note the boat across this pond on the west side of Chequamegon Water...
40x Zoom on my Kodak is quite impressive. Perhaps with my stick to stabilize my camera, it wouldn't be blurry, but this is pretty good - almost to the point that, had the men been looking my direction, they would have been identifiable. (A little while later, they came our direction and navigated the very low bridge we were next to. They had to lay down to get under the bridge - and lower their motor enough as well!)

Not a perfect shot, but I think it's a stunning picture anyway - again, with that 40x zoom.
Soon after, bored and not getting any interest in our hooks (others said they had trouble too), we decided to leave and do some exploring before going home. That post will be next time...
